"The best Hitchcock film Hitchcock never made. Stanley Donen’s pitch-perfect romantic thriller is a movie I can watch over and over again. Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn at their peak, with Parisian locations."

I received a copy of Dutch Girl from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book. It's not just a biography of Audrey Hepburn but a biography of the time and place that made her who she was.
Robert Matzen does a stunning job of bring Audrey to life.

"And I love Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I love Audrey Hepburn. I love her style, and I think the whole idea of it is really fun, because I used to live in New York so I can relate to her."

"One of the first films I remember seeing on TV as a kid that had a major impact. Seeing the bad guys getting knocked off in creepy, creative ways was a powerful contrast to the classy coupling of Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn, my pick for the most successful teaming of two film icons ever. This is the best Hitchcock film Hitchcock never made."

"My fourth favorite movie — I think every top five list has to have an Audrey Hepburn movie in it. Probably the greatest face of the 20th century, if not Sophia Loren and perhaps Monroe. Maybe Ingrid Bergman. But certainly she changed everything for the waif look, and the modern woman, and the non-buxom bosomy girl; and also always played smart. But this movie — I know I sound like a chorus boy here but, Funny Face is just… the choreography, the split-screen work, Kay Thompson, my God. Just try to stare at Audrey Hepburn dancing in her wedding attire and stepping onto a raft into an idyllic French stream with swans floating around. And perfect choreography and synchronization with the camera. And the swooping crane shots and the music. It’s just a wonderful, wonderful film. And smart and funny — and beatniks in Paris, and fashion, and color, and, yeah, I just really love the film. Ahead of it’s time."

"I would say, Vacances romaines. I don’t know the English title. With Audrey Hepburn. Roman Holiday? I was not at all a baby girl who just wanted to be a princess, at all, but the fact is, in my movie choices, I was really obsessed with those beautiful and strong and funny and fragile women. [laughs] I was not wearing any princess dress or things like this, but in movies, I was very into it."

"I was so excited when I found this edition of Charade. The DVD I previously owned looked like someone had video taped a TV broadcast. And of course this edition is beautiful. The opening credits are simply the coolest. And you can never go wrong with pairing such charming and lovely icons as Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant. This is one of those films you can watch over and over because it’s so fun and enjoyable."

Effervescent Hitchcock pastiche. Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant spar and fall in love while attempting to discover the whereabouts of a stolen fortune; James Coburn and George Kennedy are amongst the killers also taking an interest in the cash.

Film's main plus points are its ingeniously convoluted script, practically guaranteed to keep the viewer guessing, and sparkling dialogue, which Grant and Hepburn put across every bit as well as you would expect. Film also has a touch of grit in the thriller elements, as well. A highly polished piece of escapist entertainment; classy in every department. Almost certainly showing on a video-sharing website near you (Universal mucked up the copyright notice and the film has been in the public domain ever since it was first released).
