Emma @ The Movies (1786 KP) rated Only The Brave (2017) in Movies

Based on the true story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, Only The Brave is the heroic story of one unit of local firefighters that through hope, determination, sacrifice, and the drive to protect families, communities, and our country become one of the most elite firefighting teams in the country.
My normal selection of films doesn't generally include "based on a true story" tales, but this year has really seen to that. I probably wouldn't have seen this one if it hadn't been for the fact it coincided with the next Unlimited Screening. So thank god for that.
I really wish I'd read up about the background story before I went... I was not ready for that ending. It was all I could do to not sob out loud in my seat. Heartbreaking

This is based on the true story on how Bonny and Clyde were finally caught, it is quite slow but watchable, The two main characters do spend a lot of time in the car and driving along empty roads. It did show the following that Bonny and Clyde had and how they managed to get away with it for so long.

Didn't think this movie would amount to much and was pleasantly surprised by the story which was cleverly marketed as based on true events.
All here are amazing with stand outs from Harrelson and McDormand who are both very believable and their characters fleshed out.
A little uneven in places, but the story telling is still quite compelling.

Good idea for story (2 more)
Based closely on true life
Likeable characters
Story stretched out too much (1 more)
Not a fan of the jumps between, Not always obvious who and where you are
Not what I was expecting - but ok read
I did finish and enjoy this book to an extent. I read it as it's been raved about on social media and I don't think it deserved the hype. Was Good, but I skipped a lot of unnecessary detail and the end was disappointing

Looking for a lost city
A british soldiers true story right before WW1 is sent to south america to map out the area. During his trip he learns of old civilizations and possibly a lost city with fame a fortune. He goes back home to fight in WW1 and is injured in a mustard gas attack and is told not to return in search of his lost city. His oldest son convinces him other wise and they return to try and find this lost city only to be never heard from again.
Considering it was based on a true story it wasn't bad but just was very very boring

The Chocolate Lady (94 KP) rated Alias Grace in Books

This classic novel of Margaret Atwood is now a televised mini-series, but I really had to read the book before I start watching it. This fascinating historical fiction novel is a psychological profile based on the true story of Grace Marks, the woman convicted of a double homicide in 1843. The Chocolate Lady (94 KP) rated The Collected Works of Billy the Kid in Books

This is a unique hybrid of poetry and prose, mixed with both historical fact and fiction based on the true life story of the famous American outlaw William Bonney, who was better known as "Billy the Kid".
