Heath Ledger's Joker... Seriously do I need to say more. (0 more)
Best of the Nolan films and second only to Batman Returns for me.
I can honestly say that the opening scene alone is enough to give this movie a 10 star rating, for me it is hands down the best opening to any movie I've ever seen.

Heath Ledger's Joker stole the entire movie the sheer depth and realness he brought to the character even to this day even though I've seen this movie a dozen times still just blows me away. He takes the Joker to such a high tier and honestly noone's ever going and a top him for me. Bale's take on Batman/Bruce is good but not a favorite for me. The rest of the cast is wonderful as well and they all just play off each other so well.

Although I lean toward agreeing with you about the opening scene, I think Inglorious Bastards with Christoph Waltz is a better opening scene, but this one is probably top 5... Kudos to you if I had any left... I will hit you up tomorrow.

The opening scene to IB is freaking amazing but after watching both of them one after another I gotta stay on the DK side of the fence. It was just such an amazing intro to not only one of the most iconic characters in comic books but it blew away absolutely any doubts I originally had about Heath Ledger playing The Joker which I will be the first to admit I had my doubts when it was first announced.

I'm not sure whether this is officially considered to be one of the last movies in the DC EU (DC Extended Universe) or one of the first in the new DCU (DC Universe) but, regardless, it's about a Superhero that I have never really heard of before and know nothing about.

Like, I suspect, most people.

Anyway, it stars that Mexican kid from Cobra Kai as Jaime Reyes who finds himself in possession of a relic of alien technology, that attempts to form a symbiosis with him and bestows powers upon him (in a world which already includes the DC Holy Trinity of Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman).

What happens, them, comes across as a mix of Spider-Man and Iron Man (especially), with a hint of Venom, Shazam and Batman also all thrown in for good measure!

In short: been there, seen that, got the t-shirt ...

Good Sfx
Best film of the year so far!
A very good film and in stark contrast compared to Batman vs Superman. It has a good back story to how she became to be. The action, fights and Sfx are all very good. The story and characters portrayed by a strong cast top it off. Overall an emotive film with a deeper meaning.

I'm a huge fan (maybe one of the only) of the new 52 DC reboot. Barbara Gorden is the main reason. Babs has her legs again! She's no longer Oracle, and she's Batgirl again. Batgirl was my first favorite superhero, after watching the 1960s Batman show. She was a librarian, and she had the cool motorcycle.
Gail Simone script is excellent in this volume, and I quickly demolished her Batgirl arc.

Oh boy. I couldn't even make it through the first thirty minutes of this film. It is easy to see why this film killed the careers of so many people that were involved in it. I'm surprised that it didn't end more. This is a poorly done film, if you can even call it a film. I'd call it Batman and Robin on Ice. It's not good. No. Just... No.

I'm going to be upfront here. When I saw this available as an ebook for my Kindle, I was like "Hmmmm..", but then I was thinking "Greg Cox is quite good, but did I really want to read a prose adaptation of Snyder's Court of Owls story from BATMAN?". Reading users' reviews on here told me that it was not an adaptation, but an original tale involving Bats and yet another confrontation involving the Court of Owls. So, yup, I was sold on that point alone!

****

Cox does a brilliant job with Batman! Seriously, I wish he had been writing BATMAN instead of Tom King! The characterization is one that shows us the "I'm Batman!" version, as well as allowing us to see a side of him not always presented well in the comics of late: he has a human side, but he also has a dedication to see cases/mysteries through to the end, as it is what he feels he has to do for the city of Gotham, as well as her citizens. The great thing with the way Cox presented both sides was balanced, neither too much of one or the other.

I also quite liked how Cox returned to the Court of Owl's previous "lair", the one with that marbleized labyrinth and that huge marble owl statue in its center. Reading throughout, it really seemed as if Cox had spent more than enough time reading the source material, taking all of it in, and then presenting his addition to Batman's dealings with the Court of Owls. So, so brilliant!

And, while she was not in it as much as Bats, the little bit that Batgirl/Barbara Gordon appeared was spot on. Her dialogue interactions with Bats are tense, in relation to the case, as well as fun and playful, when the situation called for it. Again, just as his treatment of Batman's character, Cox presents us with a balanced Barbara Gordon, making her inclusion a welcome treat!

As much as I loved seeing both Bats and Barbara, I was equally invested in the supporting characters. No one felt like cardboard or trope-ish. Everyone had roles to play within the story, and the roles were played well and memorable, even after the book was finished! Definitely well appreciated of all the effort invested in both the main characters, as well as the not-so-main folks!

I don't know that this would be considered canonical as far as Batman and the Court of Owls, but it should be! The story flows well, offering an edgy, exciting adventure that succeeds in being memorable as well as being taken as canonical! Good stuff, folks, and one not to be missed! Unless, of course, you don't like Batman, and then, well, it would just be a lot of suck! Just sayin'..
