LissaBeth21 (6 KP) rated Seeking Refuge in Books

Not very many stories of Jews during World War II have a happy ending. Being evacuated twice, once from Germany to London on the Kindertransport and then again to Wales after war is declared, Marianne's struggles are visceral. Watching a child go through terrifying separation from her family only to be placed in difficult and lonely situations was heart wrenching. Though it is bittersweet, I was overjoyed by the ending to this beautiful book. Marianne certainly deserved it!

Unusual, descriptive, horrors of war
While I feel a lot of the descriptions about the genocide of Native Americans was grotesque, Barry's other descriptions was rich and beautiful especially describing the relationship between John and Thomas. It is a love story within the context of war. It is uncommon because it describes a homosexual relationship in a very natural way and also talks about the protagonist's desire to be a woman in terms of the historic backdrop.

Amazing game
This is such an amazing game. With a fantastic story and great characters it really keeps you interested. The gameplay is great and it definitely keeps you on your toes wondering what will happen next. The graphics are beautiful and just exploring the different areas is a lot of fun. Sarah (7798 KP) rated In Bruges (2008) in Movies

Great black comedy with serious elements
This is one of those smaller films that comes out of nowhere and ends up being very enjoyable. It's mostly a black comedy but with some serious and sombre overtones. It's got a fantastic cast, by far one of Colin Farrell's best films and Ralph Fiennes is great as bad guy Harry. It's well written with some brilliant dialogue, and the setting in Bruges is just beautiful. Never fails to make me laugh.

Incredibly creative and disturbing look at transformation
Han Kang is an absolute gem in terms of creative writing and The Vegetarian does not disappoint. It's difficult to explain without completely spoiling the plot but it consists of a woman becoming vegetarian and her subsequent 'transformation'.
The beautiful imagery and the graphic details about mental health is unique, and at times the insanity of the novel resembles Kafka's Metamorphosis. It is definitely in that league of magical realism.

My Preferred Social Media
Instagram is my social media of choice. I love seeing and discovering beautiful pictures from all over the world, as well as taking quick snaps to share. The only reason I didn't rate it higher is because of the algorithm/non chronological timeline can muddy how and when you see things, which is unfortunate. Its still fun though.

Not as good as the book, but not bad
I read the book years ago and fell in love with it. I was excited to see the movie but was left a little disappointed. It was good but kind of ruined what I had made up in my imagination when I read the book. The story is beautiful, fun and action filled. The chemistry was perhaps lacking between the lead actors. It didn't really gel for me.

While the summary and cover are beautiful the book falls a tad flat for me. The author makes the main character to ballsey and in your face. The plot is flat and most of the story revolves around her lying about some thing or another.
I think the idea was there but the execution just fell flat for me.
Those who want a more fluid story with not much up and down would enjoy this story.

I absolutely love this author, another amazing story. The characters were fantastic and had very hot chemistry between them. This book was so real with lots of funny dialogue, it was such a beautiful story to read. This book had the perfect mix of sexy hero, strong heroine with the perfect chemistry. I cant wait to read more from this author in the future.

This is the first book in the series and what a fab start it is. This is a story about two broken people trying to mend. This story is heart breaking as well as beautiful. The characters are fab and work well within the story. Its a bit slow in the beginning but stick with it, it is definitely worth it. I cant wait to read book 2.
