Nic and Nigel have recently discovered some home movies from the production of A Winter’s Night, a huge movie from 20 years ago famous not only for the wonderful story but the behind the scenes drama, including the death of the original star. They are the talk of the Oscars, but a break in convince the couple that there is someone on those tapes someone doesn’t want seen. Can they figure out what that is?

This is a second delightful romp with a modern day homage to The Thin Man, not that you need to be familiar with the original to enjoy this book. The book includes portions of the tapes that have been found, and since they introduce us to the suspects and motives, they are important. I thought I had things figured out early on, but I turned out to be wrong. The characters are a lot of fun, and the banter kept me grinning if not laughing outright.

How did the Body Slither into Belinda’s Garden?
Belinda has just moved from New York City to Greenwich, Connecticut, where she is renting the carriage house behind the Carrington estate. And she is currently pet-sitting the python of one of her clients. But she’s barely settled in when she finds a young woman dead in the flower bed outside her cottage. The victim was a friend of the handsome Stone Carrington the Fifth. With the body being so close to her new home, Belinda starts to investigate. Will she figure out what happened?

I have quite a few books from this author, so I thought I’d start with this three-book series. Despite the quick start, I thought the first couple of interview scenes were a little short, but the book got over that. The ending was a little weaker than I would have liked, but it did answer my questions. I like Belinda, and the rest of the cast were developed well. I’m hoping to see where the series goes next soon.

I am very glad I finally picked up this book. I got it for Christmas, but started reading so many other books that this one kinda got left behind. It is a great example of how creepy and intriguing can be mixed together in a very nice way. I loved the story itself. There were only a few moments where I felt that I c ould tell what was going to happen next. It kept me on the edge of my seat from the forst page. I really liked how all of the characters were named after other literary characters. It just made the book that much more fun for me. I would recommend this to anyone who likes gothic style horror and does not have a faint heart. There are a few scenes that can get intense and violent. I can't wait to start reading the next one!
