"I get what Bryan Ferry is trying to do – experimenting in a bizarre world and then couching what he finds in the style and language of the hunting set. It's an exotic, intriguing concept and he's the only one doing it. This song [about a love affair with a blow-up doll] reveals a corner of your psyche that not many people would like to admit exists: that the mind wanders into dark places and the body follows. It's a romantic delusion and it's fascinating material for a song."

Surprisingly fun
Went to see the movie today with the kids and was instantly surprised by how not bad it was! Some rather funny references to the original cartoon, without being too corny or annoying. The actress that played Dora did a great job and the supporting cast were entertaining enough. The husband and I were taken by surprised at how much we laughed at certain points. The fact that swiper was real character was a bit too bizarre for me though, it didn't add to the movie and even the kids looked confused.

What a page turner! Yes the plot is a bit ridiculous and yes the characters lives are a bit bizarre, but you can't deny that this book is gripping the whole way through!

The twists and turns in this book are never ending and they're all completely shocking, though one in particular strikes you more than others. I'm definitely going to look into more Peter Swanson books after reading this one, I think he's an excellent writer and if he continues to write books as good as this I can easily see him becoming one of my favourite authors.
