Russ Troutt (291 KP) rated Blaze (2018) in Movies
Jun 28, 2019
Watched what is definitely one of my favorite movies of the year so far recently, unfortunately it was on a little screen on my flight back to Hawaii. Name of the movie is Blaze, written and directed by Ethan Hawke, and is based on the outlaw country singer and songwriter legend Blaze Foley. If you don't add this to your watch list then I'll have to have Deputy Dawg throw you in movie jail.

At the Drive In made the most responsible call when they put their legacy on hold in 2001. Now older and wiser, they're much better prepared to nurture their blaze than before. All it needed was a little room to breathe.

LeftSideCut (3778 KP) rated Ghost Rider (2007) in Movies
Jun 28, 2019 (Updated Jun 28, 2019)
Just...so bad
Ghost Rider was one of the many terrible Marvel adaptions that were unleashed upon us before Marvel Studios started the MCU, and for me, this is easily one of the worst.
There's just nothing to really get excited about here - the cast is pretty dodgy (I appreciate Nicholas Cages general existence, but he's such a bad fit for Johnny Blaze), Eva Mendes is pretty forgettable, and Wes Bentley plays a hugely generic villain - a far cry from the demonic Blackheart from the comics.
It's quite obvious that any meaningful script or basic plot were put second behind attempts at flashy shots.
The CGI has aged pretty badly as well, with Ghost Rider himself looking like something from a PS3 era cutscenes, rather than a big budget superhero film.
I can't wait for a proper Ghost Rider adaption to happen within the MCU in the future (Agents of Shield made a pretty good start) but unfortunately, Johnny Blaze was one of the many Marvel characters that got a piss poor movie around this time.

Merissa (11731 KP) rated Rarely Pure and Never Simple (Variant Configurations #1) by Angel Martinez in Books
Jun 21, 2022 (Updated Jun 21, 2023)
RARELY PURE AND NEVER SIMPLE is the first book in the Variant Configurations series and one I definitely want to return to.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world where variants are around but not classed as 'normal', Damien is a Locator, but a rare one as he can find people, not things. Blaze, on the other hand, is a Sparker, able to create and use fire. He also tracks people in the old-fashioned way. These two are thrown together to find a large number of missing children, learning to work together as they do so.
Both of these men are damaged in their own ways. They also have their own foibles which are introduced in such a way as to appear nothing out of the ordinary for each of them. My heart broke for Damien as I learnt more about his childhood, and I was so thankful Blaze was there for him.
This is a fast-paced story with brilliant characters, both main and supporting. I found the locations easy to see and accept due to the descriptions given. Going in, I knew it was a slow burn AND the first in a series so I knew there wouldn't be a HEA in here. I did hope for an HFN though!
I am definitely left wanting more from this world, as well as Blaze and Damien. A fantastic read and highly recommended by me.

Nice design (5 more)
Good fit
Robust
Helps to create good habits
Tracks other things such as sleep as well as steps
Links to the Fitbit community
Great for keeping track of your fitness
I’ve had a Fitbit in one form or another for a few years and must say the Blaze is a definite favourite. Just like earlier Fitbits it tracks your excersise and steps however this version also keeps log of weight (if synced to Aria scales), sleep and women’s health. It creates great habits as the Fitbit challenges give you something to focus on and work towards.
Ivana A. | Diary of Difference (1171 KP) rated Releasing the Demons in Books

This might be one of the best vampire books I have read. The story behind it is different than any other vampire books I've read before.
When you combine vampires and humans with superpower abilities - you get the hybrids that are in this book.
There are six ''brothers'' who are vampire hybrids and they all have different abilities.
This book focuses on Blaze, who went through seven months of hell.
His tattoos can't cover the scars he will have for life. But meeting the love of his life might make his burden weigh less - or will it?
This is a story that will bring you on the edge and make you bite your nails constantly - but it's definitely worth reading it!
