An exciting legal thriller
Sapere books just seem to keep publishing books that I really enjoy reading. This is another one. Again, a book that I wouldn’t normally read - although I don’t think I can keep saying that about thrillers, I seem to be reading a lot of them lately! This is a very good one though.
Charles Holborne wasn’t born as a Holborne, he was originally Charlie Horowitz. After a successful war for him, he left the RAF and went to Cambridge, which for a Jew from the East End at that time was both unusual and remarkable. He becomes a barrister, which is again unusual, and changes his surname due to the prejudice of those in chambers. He’s very good at his job, and specialises in criminal cases. Not everyone appreciates his success, and he soon runs in to some serious problems.
This book just seemed to speed by for me. It was interesting, fast-paced and the second half was rather exciting. We even get to meet the Krays (there’s some historical crimes and criminals to help the reader get some sort of context)!
Charlie Holborne is a really likeable character, and I’d be very interested to read more books in this series.

The Christmas Gift? (A Barlow Sisters Novella) by Jordan Ford
The Christmas Gift? is a sweet addition to the Barlow Sisters books. In this one, we get to know Rahn and Roman. Rahn is Chloe's best friend, and Roman is the drummer in Cairo's band. We've met both of them in previous books, and both were characters I wanted to see more of.
Rahn and Roman both have their own histories to deal with, as do every single couple EVER! These two also have different cultures though, which can add a bit more difficulty to the mix. One thing that is clear from the start is just how much these two mean to each other. The problem is pretty much self-explanatory, but it is written exceedingly well. Nothing about it is glossed over, or diminished. I would love to see just how these two get on, and with the next set of books due to come soon, I am hoping for a crossover - even if it's only a little one!
Well written, with no editing or grammatical errors, this was one sweet read. You may need to visit the dentist afterwards! Definitely recommended by me.

The first wors that pops into my head as I sit here trying to think of what to write is moving. I don't know what else to say about this book. I love reading anything about the Holocaust (The Book Theif being another favorite.) I wasn't sure about this one just from reading the back cover. I'm thrilled however that I didn't let that deter me from reading this book.
There are so many twists and turns. The past is firmly and solidly entwined with the present. I love that this book was able to teach me more about occupied France during WWII. Most books focus on Poland or Germany. I like that this book captivated without being too familiar.

A Sweet Little Book
I've just finished reading this as part of my Bucket List on Books to Read on my blog. You can check out more about that here:

I promised myself to not only read something of Roald Dahl, but to read Matilda. I loved watching the film as a child and it was Madilta's love for books and reading that made me want to pick up books and read too. And I have found no greater happiness than reading and discovering new books.
Because of this, it is hard for me to dislike the book the film was inspired by. I wanted to read the books to see if and how they differ from the film. The answer? The are pretty similar. There are only a few differences that I don't really mind.
The story is a beautiful story for children, well written, with lovely pictures and definitions to help the developing mind.
Unfortunately, I did hype myself up for reading this book. Because I loved the film so much, I wanted to love the book just as much, if not more. Alas, this is there I failed. Although I enjoyed reading the book, it did not wholly meet my expectations. There was just something missing. I think it might have been the ending. It felt a little rushed and under-developed. But that is just my opinion.
Overall, I enjoyed reading the book. A nice quick little read that is great for all ages.

Awesome 5 star read
This is book ONE in the Banger trilogy, which was previously released as 7 part books. I was going to buy them, all 7 books, once they were all out, but life got in the way and I totally forgot about getting. Until I saw they were being rebranded and rereleased as a trilogy. They were released on Jan 1st 2018 and I purchased all three in one.
And let me ya!! You NEED all three before you start!! Seriosuly, DO NOT attempt these books til you have all three (book one is currently free Jan 6th 2018)
Because this will GRAB you and not let you go! Took me about 90 minutes, to read all 233 pages and I did not move for those 90 minutes!
And you know what?? I did not notice, it did not even occur to me til I was over half way through about something about the way this book is written

So there I was, merrily reading away, about Katherine and her hunt, about Greyson and his personal affliction and about them doing naughty unexpected things to each other and it hits me! Like a freaking sledgehammer to the face! It hit me that this book, that grabbed me so well, is written in the PRESENT FLIPPING TENSE! For me to get way past half way, for that penny to drop, just shows you how engaging I found Katherine and Greyson.
It is explicit, it's down and dirty. It makes no apologies for being so either! It is, in places, emotional. Not quite the bawl your eyes out, more the kind I wanna stab Katherine's ex's eye out with a blunt pencil, but I have a feeling the bawling is to come. Oh yes, I know its-a-coming!
I Love Ms Lynne's work, and this is an excellent addition to her library.
Off to read book 2, Covet Me now.

Secret Origins is the first book in The Courtless Fae series and runs along the same timeline as Ignited, the sixth and final book in the Daywalker series. Personally, I would recommend you read that series first as it will give you a better idea about the different characters and what makes them tick. You will also see Myst with Frankie which is always worth a read.
You learn more about Myst from the start of this book. She has a persona she puts forward for everyone, and even falls for it herself at times. She pushes people away, not wanting to care for anyone. Unfortunately for her, some people sneak past her walls. From the other books, it is obvious that Myst and Fenrir have a history together but now we learn just what that history was. No wonder Myst pushed him away. Fenrir has a lot to do to make up to Myst and to get her to trust him again.
As with all of Maya Daniels' books, it is full of snarky humour and action. There are new characters to meet as we learn about Myst's past that I can't wait to meet again. A brilliant start to a new series and definitely recommended by me.

You learn more about Myst from the start of this book. She has a persona she puts forward for everyone, and even falls for it herself at times. She pushes people away, not wanting to care for anyone. Unfortunately for her, some people sneak past her walls. From the other books, it is obvious that Myst and Fenrir have a history together but now we learn just what that history was. No wonder Myst pushed him away. Fenrir has a lot to do to make up to Myst and to get her to trust him again.
As with all of Maya Daniels' books, it is full of snarky humour and action. There are new characters to meet as we learn about Myst's past that I can't wait to meet again. A brilliant start to a new series and definitely recommended by me.

A Rushed Ending to a Rushed Series
The author's note at the end of this book mentions "six books and one year" - which I think lends real credence to the fact that, as I was reading through Shores of the Marrow, it felt as if the whole series, but this book in particular, had been rushed.
Whether it was the author's or the publisher's decision to put out six books in such a short period of time, I don't think it was necessarily a good one. A lot more work was needed to "polish" the books, in terms of picking up errors (e.g. waddle used in place of wattle), and, personally, I think there were too many characters brought in, with a lot of focus placed on them for a time, for them to just be cast aside and forgotten about, or for there to be fleeting references made to them in later books. Similarly, main characters have big chunks of backstory missing that leaves them feeling quite unrounded, given that there have been six books (to date) in the series.
I really do think that this would have been better served as a more focussed storyline in fewer books, which would have been a meatier tale to get stuck into, with really well-defined and explored characters. As it is, I was left feeling like so much of the story was kind of "frothy" and lacked a certain depth - it never really drew me in and made me feel anything, which was quite a disappointment for me.
It's also something of a disappointment to come to the end of the book, without any real conclusion, find a link to a pre-order for the next book in the series and there be no such page when the link is clicked! Whether I'll come back to the series if and when Book 7 is released is, in all honesty, looking somewhat doubtful
