Great cgi for the city and back drops (0 more)
Very entertaining family film
Well I have to say I was a bit surprised when I saw Guy Ritchie come up as the director at the start, especially after the King Arthur film. Gladly none of his usual editing techniques are on show here. I can only just remember the cartoon version when I was younger. The humour of the genie voiced by Robin Williams made the film for me.
So a tough act to follow. The film is visually dazzling, in the costumes, sets, CGI and SFX in general. It all looks very realistic. I'm not a big fan of the songs, some are better than others. Overall it's a bit unfair to compare it to the original. It's a fun and light hearted film that goes by at a good pace and doesn't feel like a long film. Naomi Scott does look like a Disney princess. Maybe not as funny as the original but it's still a film all ages should enjoy.

"The Ramones are quite a cartoon-friendly band and I thought they'd have more illustrated sleeves. Pleasant Dreams is always the album of theirs that gets overlooked even though it's got some great really poppy, bubblegum songs on it in the style for which they're known for. And it kind of looks like a Saul Bass cover. When I was a kid it was my favourite Ramones record, with songs like 'You Sound Like You're Sick'. Just brilliant. How many times can you say "this record's good" as a reason for liking it? I guess I've found there are two types of people: people who find a record, really love it, and don't want anyone else to hear it. Then there are other people that find a record, love it and are almost baffled as to why more people haven't heard it and make it their mission to spread it around. And I guess I'm the second type. Pleasant Dreams is one that I was sort of confused as to why it wasn't mentioned more."

"My older brother used to play this a lot in the house - the piano sample in 'C.R.E.A.M.' is probably one of the earliest things I can remember. It predates the first records I fell in love with, it was just always getting blasted out of his room. I didn't actively keep up with hip-hop - all I had access to was through him while I got more interested in guitar and rock music. When we were mixing Antidotes, I started to go back and actively rediscover a lot of the stuff my brother had been listening to at the time, from around '94/'95. I love the production, the lyricism and how evocative this incredibly captivating cinematic cartoon world is. I love the whole gang mentality, their self-sufficiency, the grittiness of the production. I don't think I've taken direct musical influence from them, but I admire their ethos and the self-mythologising, the way they turned it into something much bigger than just the tracks. It's just a fucking amazing record."
