Cutesy but boring
Critic review by Tom Huddleston - Timeout

‘The Boss Baby’ is one of those snarky, post ‘Shrek’ cartoons that desperately wants to appeal to parents as well as kids, but its snappy, pop-culture-referencing script feels workshopped to death (there’s a running joke about Gandalf that’s bafflingly unfunny). Undemanding kids might get a kick out of its jazzy, restless visual style and poo jokes, but grown-ups may well find themselves taking some impromptu nap time.

FANTASTIC
I will admit that I was forced to watch this by one of my more girly friends. I have never watched the original as not a big fan of cartoons and as a child I watched mostly action and adventure films not princesses.
I really enjoyed it and was very surprised it was as good as it was. My only downfall (if you can call it that) is I wouldn't think it was suitable for my 4 year old as some of the scenes can be a little frightening.

Would definitely recommend this to anyone!

Lovable characters you can instantly connect with (2 more)
Mature and compelling, but still appropriate for kids, storytelling
Great mix of comedy, action, and dramatic moments
Not just a kids show
A Show I used to obsess over as a kid that holds up very well as an adult. The characters are some of my favorites in all of fiction and it provides a great mix of zany comedy and surprisingly heartfelt moments. The first three seasons are the best imo but 4 and 5 are great too. It's a real shame nothing like this is being made now. Recommended for fans of superheros and/or cartoons in general.

The Secret Life Of Pets 2 (2019) is like three Saturday morning cartoons mashed into one.
Picture the scene: Illumination writing room, circa 2017.

Plans are well underway for the TV spinoff of “The Secret Life Of Pets” and the team have broken down around a dozen shorts to fill up the schedules when suddenly the word comes down that the studio have decided they want a theatrical sequel instead. Writer 1: Okay, shall we start from scratch?

Writer 2: *shrugs* Nah, it’s nearly lunch, let’s just jam the ideas together until we hit the magic 90-minute mark.

Writer 1: Done. Let’s get lunch.

First things first... I love Sarah Andersen. She has a wonderful way of showing what anxiety, depression, and introversion is. It's completely refreshing to find a graphic novel with a character that I relate to so deeply.

Herding Cats is hilarious, and relatable. I spent my time reading this and laughing. I related so much to these cartoons I thought for a second that Sarah Andersen was stalking me and based her story off of me. It was that scarily accurate.

All in all, this is a book that most people will be able to relate to and love.

*I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Fur of Flying (2010)

Wile E. Coyote takes a cactus to the dick in this butt-ugly 3D gimmick back from when everyone thought slowly, awkwardly mugging real up close to the camera every 15 seconds viewed through a pair of uncomfortable plastic glasses wedged onto your face was the future. A careless rehash of the most basic, overplayed aspects from the Roadrunner cartoons throughout the decades. Like wow, the coyote gets hit with a rocket and crushed by a boulder... haven't seen that one before - but now with the added headache of everything coming way too close to your grill because apparently 3D just can't work any other way. At least it's over quick.

I've been a huge fan of the Justice League since I was a child, watching the old cartoons, so I was excited to see this. Bad stuff first: The CGI was whack. It also took them way too long the revive Superman (sorry not sorry, you can't have Justice League without Superman). The pacing was a little off too. I'm sure it was due to Whedon coming in at the last moment, but Snyder has been the problem in the DC universe. Hopefully they get a better director in there for the subsequent movies.
But, Wonder Woman, the Flash, and Aquaman saved it. I do like Ben Affleck as Batman, but something was off.

Great content (0 more)
The Boomerang app is great for fans of classic cartoons. Their content includes the entirety of The Flintstones and The Jetsons as well as other Hanna-Barbera classics. They also have plenty of Looney Tunes and WB content. I'm hoping they continue to add to the catalog because no other streaming service carries much of this kind of content. They also stream some modern cartoons which some may be interested in.

I've tried the app on both my Android phone and my Fire Stick. I've had no issue with the streaming and it seems to run very smoothly. I also think the app looks great. The design is clean and colorful. I only have a couple of minor complaints about the app. First, it has a startup screen that has sound that you cannot turn off. This can be somewhat annoying. Second, when selecting a cartoon it automatically starts playing the first episode, or whichever episode you're on rather than taking you to a screen that shows all episodes. If you want to see all of the episodes you have to hit a tiny information button very precisely. I'd rather it just take me to the episode screen immediately.

At only $4.99 a month, I'm really happy with this service. It's pretty inexpensive and I've probably watched more on it than a lot of my other streaming subscriptions (which, as an adult with no children, I probably should be embarrassed by). They also have a 7-day free trial, so I recommend giving it a try!
