In Dickens and Christmas, Lucinda Hawksley presents the reader with the social history of Christmas along side the personal history of Charles Dickens. The book explains where many of are modern festive traditions originated from we also learn where Dickens inspiration for many of his festive tales come from. This book would make a ideal Christmas gift for the love one who love Christmas and Charles Dickens.

"Michelle is our real Charles Dickens, and this small novel is working class perfection itself: in a mall, young, gay, punk, and in love for the first time."

"Early on, I was so impressed with Charles Dickens. I grew up in the South, in a little village in Arkansas, and the whites in my town were really mean, and rude. Dickens, I could tell, wouldn’t be a man who would curse me out and talk to me rudely."

The blurb says this book is “Candide by way of John Irving, with a hint of Charles Dickens.” I'm not totally sure, but you can find out what I thought of this fun debut novel in my #bookreview on my blog here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2020/04/17/seasons-of-surprises/

I love the Muppets.
This film is the best of many retellings of Dickens classic ghost tale.
Gonzo is my favourite as Charles Dickens, his narration along with Rizzlo the rat is humorous and fun.
Kermit as Bob Crachit as the lead book keeper is amusing and his team of rats are hilarious.
Michael Caine plays Scrooge who's path of redemption is believable as he is visted by three ghosts who show Scrooge the errors of his ways.
Also, the songs are catchy.
Disney tried other versions but none can top this one. A true Christmas classic to watch every year.

"The thinly veiled autobiography of Charles Dickens himself. Having grown up with a stepfather, I liked reading about another child who had one as well. I loved the English nature of the story — the time and place it inhabits. Another story of a child making his way in the world. I sense a theme here. I like this better than “Oliver Twist” because the storytelling is more restrained, and more believable."

The only Christmas story
There have been hundreds of adaptations of this book, and yet this will be the only classic version. It is the original redemption novella. The treatment of the poor and the ability of a self-interested man absolving himself by transforming into a more sympathetic character are the key themes of the story. With A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens captured the essence of the mid-Victorian revival of the Christmas holiday.
