THE festive romance
This is one of my absolute favourite festive books out there. It’s warm and snuggly and it is so cheerful that it makes me smile as soon as I open the book.

Joe and Clara are both wonderfully developed characters who steal your heart from their first introductions. There were little moments that got me giggling, and plenty of times where the novel was just purely heartwarming.

To me, this is what every festive novel should be. It is so feel-good and I love the way that every chapter counts down until Christmas. If I had the self-control, I would read a chapter a day through December but I know I would never be able to restrain myself that much!

This is definitely a Christmas book you have to experience.

I recorded this one off the TV, 'tis the season for made for TV Christmas movies after all!

Before the first advert break even appeared it was obvious how this film was going to go. It's not really a Christmas film though and there definitely aren't enough festively bedecked dogs.

The storyline is sickly sweet but it does at least give us a fun little romcom. It's a pleasant little film to watch but it isn't going to make anyone's top festive features. It's more likely to fit the bill of harmless film to watch while you put the decorations up or wrap presents.

Julie Gonzalo is a familiar face from lots of different TV shows, most recently Supergirl and she's no bad in the lead role, it's definitely her niece in the film that steals the show though, along with the floofs!

"I love Christmas Vacation, with Chevy Chase, and Randy Quaid as well. It’s so funny. Juliette Lewis is in there, too — who I think is genius, by the way, in everything that she’s in. That movie, to me, is so funny that every time it plays at Christmas time I inevitably have to watch it. I mean, every scene in that movie is so funny — when that squirrel lands on the toupee of the grandpa; the kid when he gets on the damn saucer and he flies down the hill, I mean, I just think that’s a really cheesy scene. And I love Chevy Chase. Any Chevy Chase. He’s just got a really funny quality about him, and it’s really subtle — he’s got a little twinkle in his eye, he’s really sort of mischievous. I like him. Just the way he carries himself — he’s really animated without being physical."

The most popular gardening writers (those who are on TV) are now under the same pressure to produce a new book for Christmas every year as the best-selling cookery writers — whether or not they have anything fresh to say.

Last year Monty Don charmed all with Nigel: My Family and other Dogs. His latest offering, Down to Earth: Gardening Wisdom is this year’s best-selling gardening book.

From Monty Don’s best-selling guide to gardening principles to peeking into the plots of the rich and famous, there’s much to enjoy:
