Also, favorite female villain of all time goes to Ma-Ma. Best put by Lena Headey when she said "I think of her like an old great white shark who is just waiting for someone bigger and stronger to show up and kill her. She's ready for it. In fact, she can't wait for it to happen. And yet no one can get the job done. She's an addict, so she's dead in that way, but that last knock just hasn't come. This big, fat, scarred shark moving through the sea and everyone flees and she's like, 'Will someone just have the balls to do it? Please?'"

Brief interlude: if you struggle with self harm, do yourself a favor and either avoid this film, or watch when you're in a good frame of mind.
This movie is filmed in an innocuous way. That is to say, it doesn't FEEL like a horror movie. In fact, it's hard to even call it that, despite the horrific content. There are scenes which stretch on to the point where the audience is horribly uncomfortable. But they're also REAL. How many times have you felt inadequate or embarrassed and wished you could disappear? That's what this film embodies.

For the first 40 minutes or so though, I actually really enjoyed this latest installment of a franchise that has always struggled to match the original. Some interesting ideas and characters are introduced and there's a healthy dose of intense action as a captured Predator escapes a facility it's being held captive in. Overall, plenty of potential.
But then, probably soon after the arrival of the huge CGI Super Predator, the movie slowly descends into nonsense. What doesn't help is that the editing is noticeably bad from then on too. Scene cuts that don't make sense and numerous occasions when you just can't tell who is doing what, where people are and who is getting killed. It's a frustrating, jumbled mess.
And in among all of that, there's a predator dog that goes from trying to kill everyone to following them around and wanting to play fetch like a real dog!! Ridiculous.

You can’t fault the acting, everyone in this is truly fantastic. The story itself is fairly unique and the structure of it focusing on the same character at three different times in his life is a smart move. The problem with this film though is that is comes across as a bit dull and boring. While the basic premise is interesting and there are some good scenes, the full story seems to suffer and I’m actually quite glad I didn’t see this at the cinema as I can imagine sitting there quite bored. There is also an unexplained disappearance of a character which is really quite strange, and I find the evolution and development (or lack thereof) of the main character a little disappointing. It’s frustrating when you don’t feel that a character has really changed, especially in a coming of age story.
