Awesome remake of a horror classic
There isn't really anything bad to say about this film despite a lot of critisism of the CGI effects of Pennywise the dancing clown. I, however disagree and believe that this version was far more chilling than the first version. Pennywise was back on form with his creepy and outright terrifying behaviour. The plotline rarely strayed from the original script and the cast did well to keep you engrossed in the movie. I thoroughly enjoyed this film and was quite excited when I picked up the dvd yesterday.

Comedy Theater owner Elliot Freed is thrilled to meet his film idols Lillis & Townes when he hosts a special screening of their classic CRACKED ICE. But when he learns that Townes may have killed his wife 50 years before, Elliot just has to investigate. I was disappointed with the first in this series, but I really enjoyed this one. The characters were more likable, the plot much stronger, and the laughs were present in droves.

Kristy H (1252 KP) rated Bootlegger's Daughter (Deborah Knott Mysteries, #1) in Books
Feb 13, 2018
Not a classic, but certainly an enjoyable mystery novel. First in a rather large series (up to 12 books now, I think) featuring Deborah Knott. Deborah, the so-called bootlegger's daughter, is an attorney in a small North Carolina town. As often happens in such series, crime seems to follow her wherever she goes. In this book, she looks to solve a cold case murder that occurred when she was very young... and her investigation leads to several more deaths.
Margaret Maron's books are quite engaging and fun-to-read... I blew through this book in a few days.

Lindsay (1717 KP) rated The Bobbsey Twins on Blueberry Island (Original Bobbsey Twins #10) in Books
Feb 15, 2018
This a fun filled Classic. The kids in this book go to Blueberry Island and find a Mystery. Though before they do they are in a mystery before leaving.
The two sets of twins are independent and though they also follow though with listening to their father and mother. To start this book they see the caravans that they think that are a part of the curious well the little twins do. There father comes home to find out what the problem is in the street near this house.
This book is great for children and quite enjoyable. I would recommend it.

Existential Sci Fi at it's best.
A modern classic, everyone should see this once, and decide for themselves: the Red Pill or the Blue Pill.... a little bit of Trivia: All of the references to street corners (for example, Wells and Lake) are real intersections in Chicago, Illinois, The Wachowskis' hometown. The subway train has signs for "Loop," another Chicago reference.
Chicago is my hometown, and the best city in America.... but I'm Biased.

Dean (6926 KP) rated April Fool's Day (2008) in Movies
Mar 31, 2018
A so-so remake of the cult classic, although this time it is totally different characters and story but with the same idea. So if you have seen the original, if not then why?, you already have a good idea of how it will turn out. This is one of the main problems as it loses any sense of tension of the first film with its setting on a remote island. Despite the low budget TV movie feel, it was still watchable with a young trendy cast. Don't rush to see it but it's not that bad.
Ross (3284 KP) rated Monopoly in Tabletop Games

The best way to ruin friendships
The classic monopoly game really brings out the worst in people, as the need to keep giving the same person money repeatedly becomes very frustrating. When playing with kids, I have found we have to agree that once someone has bought the first property of a group, nobody can buy the rest. Without such rules anarchy would reign.
The game takes quite a long time to play and technically only ends when someone runs out of money and properties completely, which can take days.
Not really enjoyable but an excellent concept (the junior version is much better).

Great sequel to a modern classic!
The 2nd Jurassic Park film sometimes gets a bad wrap or lost among the several sequels which have followed, but this movie was actually quite good as well.
Just the right mix of returning and new characters for more dinos to scare, chase and feast upon. Several of the action sequences keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you intrigued the whole way through.
Some say the ending was over-the-top, but I loved every minute of it. Now would be the time to rewatch.

What happened, Anna???
Quite possibly one of the most boring and uneventful books I will reach all year, unfortunately, as I am usually a pretty big fan of Quindlen. Every Last One is one of my all-time favorite books. Very forgettable, under-developed characters. How am I supposed to get lost in a story if I am not able to invest in the characters and don't care what happens to them? If you are going to choose a newer title by Quindlen, Miller's Valley is the better choice, or go for a classic!

Really builds Han's character
This is how a Star Wars movie should be made
This is the Star Wars movie I've been waiting for since Rogue One. It easily ranks in my top 3 movies in the series. Ron Howard gets Star Wars, he's not taking strange twists like The Last Jedi did, just to make himself look like an avant-gard director. He hits all the points a Han Solo movie should, and even throws things in for long time followers.
