A stunning insight into your own psyche
One of my favourite games of recent years, Senua's Sacrifice is a thought provoking insight into your own psyche, while at the same time being a beautiful story about love, death and loss.

The game looks amazing, and there aren't any loading screens, as they're cleverly hidden by cutscenes.

The game has an interesting death mechanic, whereby if Senua dies, an infection gets worse in her arm, spreading all over her body. If you die so often that the infection takes over, your save game is deleted. Harsh, right?

Despite this, the gameplay is beautifully done, and the story really gets your attention throughout.

If you haven't picked this up yet, I urge you to do so, before the sequel comes out.

Good read for anyone
This is a great middle grade book. The story is compelling and deep. Tristan is a boy who is struggling with growing up, figuring out how to deal with losing his best friend, and feeling like a disappointment to his parents and grandparents. It's a rollercoaster of feelings and a great story.
If you don't know anything or much about African American or African folktales or mythology, it's ok. I really know only two (John Henry the reason why I bought the book.) and have only a passing knowledge of some of the characters and others I didn't know at all. And that didn't distract from the story. I will be looking the stories up because I want to know more about them. That kind of curiosity is something that I feel makes a great book.
I look forward to reading the next story.

Building a better board game.
The Castles of Burgundy looks like a typical Euro- board game from the early 2000's it looks boring. It also looks more complicated than it ends up being. The amount of brain power use in this game has a good balance between cerebral and mindless. At the end of the game you have something in front of you that you have built and it feels good in that respect even if you haven't won the game. It can be played casually, and with your full attention. My wife and I enjoy playing this as two players. We have played this many times more as a two player game than any other game in our collection. This game gets top marks, and is as close to a perfect game as I have experienced.

Three Thousand Years of Longing is a film that manages to be compelling, magical, and very human all at one. It's a film that deals with a mystical concept but at its core, is about the basic need to feel loved and wanted, and the sacrifices that come with it.
It's also a huge love letter to story telling. A big chunk of the narrative structure is made up of the two leads regailing tales to eachother, and it's relentlessly engaging and wholesome. Tilda Swinton is fantastic, as she tends to be. Idris Elba has always been a bit hit and miss for me, but he also excels here, and the chemistry between the two of them is strong and sweet.
Throw in a heart wrenching score from Junkie XL and the unique visionary work of George Miller, and you're left with a piece that is built to bury itself into your mind and stay there for a while. A truly wonderful experience.
