Reasonable feel good comedy
The trailer for this looked ok so I thought I'd check it out. Quite similar to Shallow Hal in many respects as a curvy girl gets a knock to the head and suddenly thinks she looks like a super model. While not hilarious there are a few laughs along the way. I think the critic's missed the point that confidence is attractive and people should worry less about looking like a photoshop model.

I was surprised how little tired book suffered from middle book syndrome. The main plot of the bookwas a little weaker than the overall arc of the trilogy, but that didn't matter to me that much. I must admit when the bullying started I felt the bullying tactics didn't match with the age of the perpetrators, but she got it right by the end. I have read other reviewers complaining that the strong character Sonea showed in the first book disappeared in this one, but I think this is unfair. In the first book she was in a territory she understood and had confidence because of that understanding. In this book, she is in a world foreign to get upbringing where society is set against her and it's acting out is prejudices onto her, of course her confidence is going to take a hit! I felt the spark of defiance still shone within her, even if it wasn't as forthright as it one was. I'm guessing this will return on the list installment.

The only cooking show that doesn't make me hungry
I normally cant watch any food type shows without getting 15 minutes in and wanting a snack. It's not that this show isn't appetizing, but these babies who call themselves chefs get me so wrapped up in their drama that I could care less about what's in my freezer. It's also a great confidence boost since I have successfully cooked scallops and risotto on more that one occasion.

Jenny Saville recommended Vincent Van Gogh: The Letters in Books (curated)
It is a collection of biographies of incredible women in history, that was written in a witty and very enjoyable way. Every woman had something to teach us, and it actually boosted my self-confidence, while reading it. The authors picked very particular women, not necessarily very well known ones, but very admirable and influential nevertheless.
Some of these women might’ve seemed negative, but every single one had something to teach us, and let’s be honest, we are not angels sometimes either.

Epically good
Doc, a young boy, has grown up working like a slave in a mine with daily beatings and feeling like his life will never be different.
That all changes on his twelfth birthday, starting with one act of kindness.
Doc's character develops well, his confidence grows and he shows how amazing he is.
It's so good traveling alongside him, so as sad as I was for his journey to come to and end, I'm thrilled that there is more to come.

A woman struggling with insecurity wakes from a fall believing she is the most beautiful and capable woman on the planet. Her new confidence empowers her to live fearlessly, but what happens when she realizes her appearance never changed?
Personally I'm not a fan of Amy Schumer, but I was sort of entertained by the trailer, and a rom-com is always in my favourite types of film so it made it into the cinema schedule fairly quickly.
I was so very nearly converted to being a fan... it was so close. *holds thumb and forefinger 2mm apart* But alas, the middle section sent me right back to where I'd been in the first place. Even though the ending redeemed the film slightly I still wasn't convinced by what had happened.
Let's forget all the talk of fat shaming that was going on before the film's release. Quite frankly that felt like nonsense. The movie basically holds to the idea that she thought she was overweight, got some confidence because of a random accident, and then realised that she had that confidence inside her all along. And as a message I thought that worked reasonably well.
Where I had the problem was in her fall to the dark side, that ultimately led her to picking it all back up at the end of the film. It doesn't take a massive break from reality to get into Renee's head in this one. I can see someone like that ditching friends to go to a classy party because it's something new and exciting, but I can't believe that she would have been that heartless to her friends. That's ultimately where the film lost me.

Beautiful and heartwarming
This beautiful short story is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. Vicki and Nicholas, both amazing people, both struggled with self-confidence for different reasons. Their meeting is a definite meet cute and is just the start of sweet story that combines romance and surprises.
This is perfect for a chilled out afternoon. By the end I was wanting more, I'd love to delve a little deeper, see where things go from where we left off.
I'm thrilled that this is part of the In Darkness series, more supernatural stories to enthrall and delight!
