The story continues as Glokta travels to defend the far off empire state of Dagoska from siege (and further rooting out corruption along the way) and the band of travellers head to the edge of the world. The best of the action takes place in the North where the empire is looking to teach the savage Northman a lesson - something that does not go well as a large, poorly prepared army meet a smaller collection of epic warriors afraid of nothing.
Definitely book 2 of a trilogy, this book keeps the story moving along, allows some of the characters to develop but with a little let down at the end.

Hopefully you have read Book 1 Court of Nightfall, it explains how far our lead heroine has come.

Scarlett is living a double life. Infiltrating the organization from the inside to bring corruption to its knees, she walks a fine line. Nightfall is the inner Scarlett let out to mete Justice. With a demanding schedule as a new Initiate she tries to balance training and her classes to move up in the ranks and saving innocents in their time of need.

Tears and Laughter, Warm Fuzzy Feelings and Heartache. You will feel those and more in this book. Can't wait to read Book 3!!!

Vivid characters

A fantasy world with a mix of its own mythology and steampunk science.

Beautifully written. Poignant, flawed but full of hope and wonder.

I really enjoyed this book. Its different but beautifully written. The characters are flawed but they all have a part to play that makes you want to keep reading. The author created an interesting world of mythology, ancient wondrous, unreachable lost cities. Magic and science co exist in a steampunk like culture, but also highlights the social and personal struggles of the people who live in it. Apathy, addiction, corruption, revolution and hope. Some people say it's slow, just keep reading, its worth it.
