Dean (6926 KP) rated Sharp Objects in TV

A great slow burner...
... But a shame about the ending! I did really enjoy this drama series. It has a great cast, cinematography and a gripping raw, brutal and haunting storyline. It's a very classy production. Definitely one that centres on character study, the murder mystery side almost taking a back seat. The only reason I can't give it a 9 or 10 the ending and final episode felt kinda rushed with a lot of unanswered questions. A twist that came out of nowhere. You have to watch until the end of the credits for a very quick summing up scene. After the pace of the first 7 episodes it was a slightly disappointing end to a great series.

Hmm
I was looking forward to this after having watched and enjoyed the original Swedish Girl with the Dragon tattoo series of films. Even the US remake of the original was very good because the story was just very interesting.
This feels very different. From the Bond like opening credits and plot about a programme that can hack any nuclear missile world wide. It's very broad in scope... Without actually having a big plot feel to it. It's not a bad film, it's an ok Thriller. After the high standards set by the other films though this is a step down. Check out the the Swedish ones if you haven't seen them.

Rather tense at times for a horror comedy. (4 more)
The three main characters.
Corey Feldman gives one of his better performances.
The villains are surprisingly creepy.
The ending.
Pretty crazy 80s comedy/horror about neighbor paranoia with a young Tom Hanks, Carrie Fisher, and Corey Feldman. That sounds like a recipe for success to me. This typical film usually involves kids or teens investigating due to paranoia, but here we have adults which adds a level of comedy to it in itself. Love how the ending pulls a twist and then twists back. As a first time viewer you have no fucking clue until the credits roll. And all he wanted to do was enjoy his vacation by relaxing at home. I can relate.
Russ Troutt (291 KP) rated The Lodge (2019) in Movies
Mar 4, 2020 (Updated Mar 4, 2020)
I think the movie distributor must have gotten lost in a snowstorm, but The Lodge finally made it to theater here in Hawaii. And like a snowstorm, this movie will chill you to your bones. I love going into movies without knowing much about it, but know this, The Lodge is truly terrifying and will leave you frozen in your seat as credits roll; pun intended. The direction and scripture from Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz twas amazing. Alicia Silverstone gives a mind blowing performance! As does the rest of cast. Elvis Presley would be so proud of the performance given by his granddaughter Riley Keough. If you do not see The Lodge, that is one sin you will have to repent.
