"So, actually, 25th Hour is my favorite Spike Lee movie for a whole bunch of reasons irrelevant for our purposes. But there’s no denying the power, the heat, and the energy—the perfection, really—of Do the Right Thing. And the cultural impact of it alone is worth the price of admission. It’s also one of my favorite New York movies. And one of my favorite modern fables. It’s stupid that I’m still typing. I don’t have to sell anyone on Do the Right Thing."

Interesting and diverse characters
Rare gem
The movie revolves around one hotel room over the case of several decades, from its inaugural tenants, to a chilling scenario on New Year's Eve of the new millennium. A masterpiece from Canada which is a rare find but totally worth it.

"The Japanese New Wave is almost synonymous with Nagisa Oshima. His film In the Realm of the Senses outraged critics and audiences alike with its many scenes of unsimulated sex. Here he takes similar themes of lust and murderous passion and explores them through the supernatural, crafting a ghost story that puts Japanese society and cultural conventions on trial in a masterful way. Who are the criminals here? Those who dare to pursue their feelings and impulses, or the society that forbids them the freedom to do just that?"

"The most influential rock film ever made (A Hard Day’s Night is probably second). It’s more than thirty years old, but it’s still the default reference for every rock group with a sense of humor (even if none of the band members were alive when it was originally released). It somehow has more cultural sticking power than most of the music it satirizes. There’s never been a real documentary about a real band that captures the nature of heavy rock as deftly as this unreal documentary about a fake band."

A World Full of Animal Stories: 50 favourite animal folk tales, myths and legends by Angela McAllister is a beautiful and interesting book of folktales and legends that celebrate animals and culture. These stories are brought to life as the reader travels the globe to Africa, Asia, North and South America, Europe, Australia and Oceania.

It is a book full of cultural stories, with strong messages and wonderful illustrations. Familiar stories such as The Billy Goats Gruff, The Nightingale, and The Ugly Duckling are in the book so the reader will learn where those stories came from. In the contents guide it has each of the stories listed under the continent they belong to, with the country that relates to the story in brackets next to its title, which is useful for finding a specific story or learning about a certain region.

The stories are not long, which makes it perfect for bedtime stories. One story a night will give your child something to think and talk about. This would also would be great for the classroom, particularly when learning about different cultural stories and traditions.

I received an ARC of A World Full of Animal Stories from NetGalley via Quarto Publishing Group and Frances Lincoln Childrens.

First off let me say paranormal romance usually is not my thing. Now that being said I really enjoyed [Reyna Hawk's] [Angels & Arrows] because it was not a typical paranormal romance. Yes that was part of it but there was cultural history and excitement as well. None of the "Oh woe is me my vampire boyfriend left me I am going to curl up and die." Maria is a fighter. A bit of a pessimist but really a fighter. It takes a bit for her to learn to trust and have faith but when she does evil spirits better watch out.

An extremely amazing film with an ending they tell you is gonna happen from the beginning, yet you don't believe it. Characters that get the most development are Thor, Vision, Scarlett Witch, Doctor Strange, Gamorra, Thanos, and the Hulk, which, when you think about it, is still quite a lot.

The ending makes you really feel like something has changed in the world. The acting is great. The special effects are really good. This is the first time I have ever noticed the score in a Marvel film. Go see it as soon as possible in theaters. This is an actual cultural event.

It is what it is - fantasy action
Its no award winning movie, but for entertainment sake, if you love fantasy, and you love action, this movie is it! It takes both genres and bends them into each other. As a fantasy author, I LOVED the creativity shown in this movie, in the cultural inclusion/seclusion, the political nuances, and the crash of fantasy into a modern world that mirrors our own. There is a lot to be said about the parallels that can be drawn from this fantasy movie to current states of affairs in our world today. Sit back and enjoy, folks!

This is not your average magic show. Darren Romeo is a really good magician and singer. The illusions are top notch and worth going to see. This is a magic show so there are going to be dancers and assistants that wear outfits that show some skin. Live animals are a part of the show but it isn't an animal act.
I love watching magic in any way I can, live being the best, and I can say that this is a great show. The pop cultural references span the ages well and I have taken my niece there.

"Cultural Amnesia might just be my favourite book of all time. It’s his essays and reflections on people he has been fascinated by, mainly from the 20th century, and I felt like I’d been properly woken up after reading it. A friend of mine actually walks Clive’s dog, so I wrote him a fan letter and my mate was able to pass it on. It was the first gushing fan letter I had written in a long, long time. I actually sent one to Henry Rollins many many years ago, and he wrote back to me. Fan letters are cool."
