Still not scary
Competes well with the original
I was a fan of the original despite the horror themes being laughable. It's a classic, you know? I had high hopes for this updated version. My biggest expection was that the producers make it actually scary, mainly making Pennywise scarier. I waited to see this because I was skeptical about this being achieved. Because I did wait till it was out on DVD/Blueray, I was influenced by the media's opinion of it. Needless to say, Kate McKinnon as Pennywise was hilarious. My hopes for this movie being scarier than it's original version were squashed, but I was now more motivated to see it. No, it isn't much scarier than the original, but it was really well done aside from some obviously CGIed moments. Superior cinematography did achieve a creepier movie. The acting was great. Overall, this was done much better than the original, actually.

The contrast between the 2D character animation and the 3D environments is incredibly jarring (1 more)
The music is hailed as "groundbreaking" by the DVD case, but is just kinda meh for me.
Very fun, but visually dated
I remember loving this movie when I was younger, and on rewatching it today I still do, but I have to admit that the visuals haven't aged well. The story is great, if occasionally predictable, and most of the characters are quirky and unique (Gune is a personal favorite!) If they'd restrained themselves to using the early CGI to animate the villainous Drej, a race of aliens made of pure energy, that would have probably aged okay. Those scenes still work. But the fact that all the mechanical elements, ships and such, even spacesuited characters are animated in decidedly dated CGI pulls you out of the narrative pretty fast.

Me and my mum had to kill a bit of time recently and decided to go to cinema, the strangest cinema I have been to, like an old fashioned flea pit. We had a choice of three movies: frozen 2, last christmas, or knives out. We chose knives out, not knowing what to expect.
We both thoroughly enjoyed this movie, it has an amazing ensemble cast, the only thing throwing us off being Daniel Craig's Southern American accent.
I enjoyed the fact each character has it's own quirks and back story, and I found humour in each of the characters.
It also kept me guessing right to the end, where usually I can tell who's done it within the first five minutes.
It's not a genre I have really watched before, but I can't wait for it to come onto DVD, we managed to spend our spare time watching a really enjoyable film, which to me was time well spent.
