Love/Hate Relationship with this Novel
I both like and hate this book. I like the storyline it has great potential but it fell flat for me. Here's why: The point of view jumped around way too much. I thought the idea of changing point of view was good except the execution sucked. It went from one to another so hard I got whiplash and it kind of takes you out of the story trying to figure out who's part of the story you're following. The second thing that stuffed it up was the way it was written. I get that the people in it are kids they're all 18 and under but the way they thought was painful. I mean they crawl out of a hole in the damn ground all bloodied and totally f**ked up and she's worried about her hair? F**k off with that s**t. I don't care how old you are there's no way you'd be worried about that type of crap at that point. It's so shallow it hurts. The last thing is, wtf is with Cassie getting all sappy over Ben? The guy you're sort of dating might be dead and Ben kisses you and you get all mushy about it? Are you f**king kidding me? I'm sorry but you'd have a bullet in your head if it were me. I'm going to give the rest of the series a chance but at this point I'm not hopeful....

Hooked On Murder By: Betty Hechtman
Cozy Mystery 280 pages
Setting: Tarzana, California

I just love quick and fun mysteries. This book was one of those. I gave this book 4 stars. It is the first book in a series but not the first one I have read of hers. I have read this series out of order. It was nice to finally know somethings about the main character.
The main character is Molly Pink and she is a widow. Her husband left her in a good position so that she didn't have to work if she didn't want to. She has decided to go work and she works at a book store as an event coordinator. One of the events she has is a crocheting club, which she doesn't know how to do at the beginning of the book. The main leader in this group is murder and who finds her. You guess it it is Molly. You learn about the crochet leader and Molly in this book. One of the detectives is dating Molly and the other has it out for her because she wants Molly boyfriend. Did Molly kill the crochet leader? What about the boyfriend issue.I am afraid to go into a lot of detail because I don't want to spoil it for you.
At the back of the book the author gives you a recipe and a crochet pattern. I always like the little extras.
I hope you read this book and the rest of the series. They are fun.

I'll be honest. With how this started I was expecting it to be erotica. That prologue with how "Absinthe" walks into the principles office, sucking on that lollipop, and how they recognise each other from their voices alone. I expected it to be a bit...kinky with them going on to have sex in his office. But then we go back three months and see how their relationship started with the Karma dating app.

I was really rather enjoying this. It had the angst of love that couldn't really happen but them being unable to fight their feelings or stop seeing each other. But then their secret got out and things fell apart around them both. And then years passed. YEARS! I began to get a little fed up with the characters after five years had passed and they hadn't found each other. Yeah, one of them was looking for the other but...it wasn't really going anywhere.

They did eventually find each other but it wasn't great between them for quite a while and my initial enjoyment of the story had waned a little by then. I did like the epilogue and how their love of classic literature worked its way into their lives. That bit was cute.

It was those five years with the travels and the trying to find each other and despising each other...it knocked it down a star for me. It just seemed too long.
