Not as classic as some of Dickens' other tales
As much as I love Dickens' left-wing plots, his novels are depressing, and this is no different.

From orphans, to children living in danger, protagonist Pip falls in love with a young girl named Estella while visiting the home of the wealthy dowager Miss Havisham. Pip attempts to win her love by attempting to become a gentleman, but instead is made a common labourer in the Havisham household. After many trials and tribulations, he returns to the house and to Estella.

There are a lot of deaths, and it is a melancholic novel. However, I do prefer some of his other works because I find the unrequited love story rather tedious.

I actually enjoyed the season, though I do agree that it was rushed. And I was pretty satisfied with each individual episode. My only real quibbles were that I didn't like Cersei and Jaime's deaths; I actually would have been okay if Jaime had lived, but Cersei needed to die in a slow and torturous manner, so I really felt robbed of seeing that. I also wasn't thrilled about Bran being named the King. I know that Jon/Aigon didn't want the position, but surely someone else could have been named! Thirdly, I would liked to have seen a real battle with the Night King; a lengthy sword match, if nothing else, at least.

Brilliant
I appear to be having a bit of a run on Joe Dante films at the moment, but it would be rude not to watch Gremlins over Christmas.

This film is so much fun from start to finish. It's everything you'd want and more from a Christmas horror film - laughs, some festive christmas spirit and a whole host of gremlin gore and wacky deaths. Considering this was made in 1984 the special effects with the Gremlins are surprisingly impressive and very inventive. The scenarios that they get themselves into are hilarious. Admittedly considering it's now 35 years old there are parts that look a little dated, but overall this is such a brilliant and entertaining film and definitely a classic at Christmas.

This film drove me to tears at some of the more notable deaths (Leia and Ben Solo) as well as when I thought Chewie was gone and when Han appeared to Kylo to help him throw away the dark side. I think it was a great way to end the trilogy with some twists that I did not see coming. The first 2 films in the latest trilogy made me feel that Rey was a Skywalker and discovering she was really a Palpatine threw me for a loop. Having Luke and Leia appear to her at the end when she was asked her name at the Moisture Farm was the ending that Rey truly deserved to have. Definitely will be watching this several more times.
