David Raboy recommended Leviathan (1989) in Movies (curated)

Leviathan (1989)
Leviathan (1989)
1989 | Action, Horror, Mystery

"Leviathan blew me away when I first saw it – half-awake on a Tuesday morning – and I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a movie, before or since, that in its use of visual mantras and sound design, creates a more convincing and yet buoyant nightmare of life on earth."

The Godfather: Part II (1974)

"With these three [Coppola’s] a great storyteller. Godfather: Part II, I just think it’s a master class in acting, production design, directing, lighting, composition. I think that if you were a film student, you’ve got — the way he tells the story, it’s masterful storytelling. And it never ever seems to disappoint."

Videodrome (1983)
Videodrome (1983)
1983 | Horror, Sci-Fi

"I probably watched this DVD twenty times within a year of buying it. Like Robocop, an example of “I liked this film, but now that it is on Criterion, it is probably more of a masterpiece than I remembered.” Also, my favorite Criterion package design, with the fake videocassette look."

I'm addicted
I can't stop playing this game. It's fun because you can choose furniture and decorations to make a nice living space. You win some items based on voting from other players. You can even purchase the real furniture for your own home if you were so inclined. The only disappointing features are that you have to earn the game money to purchase things for your next room so sometimes your design might not be exactly how you'd want. Also it really hogs memory. Otherwise, I really enjoy the creativity and the challenge.

Jack Reynor recommended Ugetsu (1953) in Movies (curated)

Ugetsu (1953)
Ugetsu (1953)

Movie Favorite

"Generally accepted as Mizoguchi’s greatest work, Ugetsu is based on supernatural Japanese folk tales by the celebrated eighteenth-century author Ueda Akinari. Mizoguchi is most concerned with a compassionate telling of human sorrow, and he finds plenty of substance in Akinari’s short stories. Infamously uncompromising, Mizoguchi was a perfectionist when it came to all aspects of the process. His visual compositions, the production design, the special effects, the lighting, the performances by the actors (especially Machiko Kyo, who adheres in this case to a more traditionally Japanese theatrical style of performance), and the sound design are all so finely tuned and executed, it’s as though Mizoguchi had the ability to be in multiple places at once."

A great disappointment
From the trailers I thought this would be along the lines of Hero, Crouching Tiger style of films. It has a grand scale feel early on but descends into a low budget feel creature feature. Missed opportunity!

Rakuen
Rakuen
2017 | Action/Adventure
It may have some flaws, but Rakuen really is an adventure worth taking. It successfully executes on modest heartfelt ambitions, and perfectly captures the vision of its creator - a rare occurrence in modern game design.

'Architects of the West Kingdom is great. It’s a fresh take on worker placement, building further on Raiders’ already stellar offering, and is able to boast the same elegance in design as its predecessor but with a snappier speed.'

Terrible
Another low budget straight to DVD release. Starts off well but ends up more of a horror comedy?! The make-up effects and design for the dead characters is pretty good but that's about the only positive. Reminded me a bit of House (More like this) section, but that was much better.

The Marinated Meeple (1853 KP) created a post in Solo Gamers

May 9, 2019
I don't really solo too much since I usually am attempting to design something when I have alone time.... but I love the idea of this group, so I thought I would join... have you tried Palm island Yet, I picked it up and it seems like a solo kind of playing game.

Cool, thanks for taking a look.
I've not played Palm Island yet but it does seem to be getting good reviews in the solo groups.
