Visually stunning and jarring. As an ex serviceman I had to take a few breaths during this film
A powerful wartime epic, that shows heroes dont have to carry a gun

"Of all of the topics I’ve studied over the past two decades, forgiveness has been the most complex and difficult. Here, Bishop Desmond Tutu and his daughter take us on a journey that has the potential to change lives and the broader culture."

Grim, detailed outlook on the American poor
Absolute kudos to Matthew Desmond for his detailed look into the heart of America's troubled capitalist system. His research and first-hand accounts of people living in poverty in Milwaukee is desperate, heartbreaking and dire, at the same time he offers an alternative to attempt to remedy an age old discriminatory system.

Eight individuals and families in this book represent an ongoing endemic situation that has perpetuated over the last century. Desmond explains circumstances that many i.e. institutions are familiar with but choose to not deal with. Definitely deserved of the Pulitzer Prize.

This is honestly one of my favorite films ever made. I love Andrew Garfield even before he was in this film but then to see him in this film, he just shines. He is a phenomenal actor and while he's the main character, he doesn't take up too much space. It's clear that the story really isn't about Andrew Garfield as Desmond Doss, the story is about Desmond Doss and what he did for his country. I'm not sure that makes sense, but go with me. He gives such a powerful performance that it doesn't feel like you're watching an Andrew Garfield film, it's like you're watching what really happened to Desmond. I think those are the best films. When it isn't about the actors, it's about the story they're telling. When the story outshines the cast, I think that's when you have a great film on your hands. Sure, it helps that this cast was phenomenal - I love seeing Vince Vaughn play different levels of seriousness - but the story is what prevails here.

I think this might be Andrew Garfield's best film and easily one of the best films ever made.

Good but too Hollywood-ised
This is yet another true life story I've never heard about until watching the film, but its a fascinating and harrowing story.

Andrew Garfield gives a great performance as Desmond, and his story is truly an intriguing one. The second half of the film during the actual war was very well done, it seemed very realistic and graphic without being too ott gory. And the documentary footage at the end of the real Desmond Does nearly had me in tears.

The main problem is this film has been Hollywood-ised, with over the top and out of place acting from some actors (my other half pointed this out early on and it was something I couldn't then unsee!) to irritating slow motion and patchy CGI. If they could just tell the real story without embellishing, it'd be so much better.

"I used to think there were records you couldn’t improve on – The Beatles, The Move, Motown. But there was always records I thought needed improvement – the drums shouldn’t do this, they should do that. I had ideas above my station from a very young age. Me and my friend Desmond had a band around 1970 – we used to listen to ‘Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out’. I was the lead singer and played kazoo."

Survive in the Wild
Wrong Turn- was a good horror film, the kills were intresting in it. The plot was good.

The plot: Friends Jessie (Eliza Dushku) and Carly (Emmanuelle Chriqui) are traveling with pals Scott (Jeremy Sisto), Evan (Kevin Zegers) and Francine (Lindy Booth) when they have car trouble in West Virginia. Moments later, motorist Chris (Desmond Harrington) crashes into their disabled vehicle. Stranded, the friends discover that they're being stalked by a horde of backwoods cannibals. The woodsmen are hungry and fierce, and they'll be eating well unless Jessie and pals can outsmart them.

Its a good film.

I like a film that tells a good story and the fact this one is true just makes it even better. Desmond Doss is a hero and I am so glad this film was made as his story is definitely one that deserves to be told. I was captivated by both "halves" and I believe it managed to build a better understanding of his character and the man he grew up to be. The war scenes were graphic and really make you think of the horrors that occur. I don't like watching movies that have a lot of hype, as I am often disappointed, but this one deserved the plaudits it received.

It was all the words I put in the heading of my rating. I loved Andrew Garfield in it as the main character. I think he did an AMAZING job playing the role of Desmond T Doss. It is rated R but I really liked it. I was leery about it because it's rated R, which I am about ALL rated R movies but I really enjoyed it. Sam Worthington is also in it. He plays the lead male character in AVATAR. I think he did a really good job in it too. It also stars Teresa Palmer who is also in The Choice. Overall, I really enjoyed it! I would watch it again AND HAVE!
