I really enjoyed this. It flowed really well and kept you interested all the way through. Still a little confused by a few things but think that’s just me. Very well written and a very intriguing read.

For the last couple of years or so, I've been (slowly) making my way through the Sharpe books, in chronological order by setting and in between my various other reading activities i.e. maybe one Richard Sharpe book every couple of months or so
I'm approaching the end of that project, with (currently) only two more novels to go: [book:Sharpe's Waterloo|328986], and [book:Sharpe's Devil|615225].
This particular entry is set during the latter days of the Napoleonic Wars: during the Peace of Amiens in 1814, to be precise, with Sharpe's personal and professional life falling apart after he is framed by wily French spymaster Pierre Ducos. This novel also sees the fall-out from certain events in the previous entries ([book:Sharpe's Siege|564536]), starting with an - illegal - duel between Sharpe and the naval commander who was responsible for abandoning him and his men behind enemy lines, moving on to his cuckolding by his wife Jane by a former friend, and even expanding on the family of the commander of that French fort with one family member, in particular, playing a very important role in Sharpe's future life!

This book is split in half. The first half is written entirely in Spanish while the second half is in English. As a person who speaks no Spanish, it was cool to go back and forth from the two halves to get an understanding to what the words meant.
This book gave a very interesting view into the migrant workers of the United States. Not only are there the testimonials from the people themselves, there are also little vignettes into each person's life.
There are small aspects of dark humor throughout the novel. Some instances, like when the child is trying to evoke the devil by cursing at him, made me laugh while I was reading it.
I really enjoyed how true the characters were to themselves in their stories. Even though we weren't following a single character the entire way through, all of the stories were connected in some way. Even still, we got great glimpses into their lives and the lives of a lot of immigrants in the United States.
Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book. It was quick and didn't seem very drawn out.

The Devils Music was a quick, easy read at only 218 pages, but also an enjoyable one. The story is sprinkled with plant lore as well as bluegrass and folk music tidbits that add interest to the story. I would suggest not reading this book on an empty stomach, however, as the descriptions of all of the delicious sounding food served at various functions are sure to leave you hungry!
The Sleuth, Emory Crawford, is a likable protagonist. Even though she aspires to be a young Miss Marple, she has her faults, and they add to her charm. Her occasional fumbling around after clues makes her seem all the more genuine. I did appreciate the fact that she wasnt all-knowing despite the gift that she realizes she has part of the way through the story. She still had to rely on her wits and ability to make logical deductions, not solely on her intuition.
Overall, a nice start to a new cozy mystery series.

This book was slow to get me interested, but once I finally got to care about the characters I was quite interested. There is a great underlying story. My biggest problem with the book was the not so hidden religious theme that hit it pretty heavily. The concept of Tak being trapped in the Earth made sense with the story. Even having a main character who was heavily influenced by God made sense. There was quite a bit however that just didn't. The entire concept of David seeing the writer in his vision lost me. I couldn't quite get into where I cared about that. As with some of his other stories it really boiled down to good God vs. Bad God / Evil / Bad Forces. It's never quite the devil, but you get the idea of good vs. evil pretty clearly.
I haven't yet decided if I will read the related book Regulators.
I listened to this one through Audible and unfortunately King made a not so great narrator to the point it detracted from the story. I think i would have preferred to actually read this one.
