Well, that was a bit of a strange movie.

A mixture of comedy and adventure, this is set after the 'monsterpocalypse' when the chemicals used to send rockets up to explode an asteroid heading to earth instead resulted in the mutation of cold-blooded animals.

So, giant man-eating frogs.

Giant man-eating ants/earthworms.

Giant spiders.

etc etc.

Think that bit on Perter Jackson's 'King Kong' where they are on the island, and all the giant creepy-crawlies ...

(Although, this, I have to say, is more PG-rated than that particular scene).

With the survivors in separate enclaves around the country, 20-something year old Joel decides to leave his underground bunker and travel across the surface to his girlfriends community just 80 miles away.

The result is an easy enough watch, that never really caught my attention all that much, despite the best efforts of the dog 'Boy'!

"When I was growing up, I heard a lot of compilation albums being played by my parents. One of these was Abba Gold. That got me into the band. In the end, it was tough to choose between Arrival and Voulez-Vous, which came out three years later. There are two reasons why Arrival wins out. “Firstly, ever since The Darkness got into a position where we needed an intro, we’ve used the song Arrival itself. So, I hear it every night, and it’s become a part of my life. Secondly, there’s a helicopter on the album cover. That’s cool in itself. But what I recently had done was a photo with myself, my wife, my child and dog put into the cover shot in place of the band, all of us standing by the helicopter. That has pride of place in my lounge"

"One of my favourite albums. I love Gary Brooker, and I loved Robin Trower when he was playing cool stuff. I never followed him after he started trying to turn into Hendrix. I didn't get it. What's he doing this for? Hendrix has already done this. Procul Harum made great music that was related to the classics, but with crazy lyrics. I still don't know what half the lyrics are about: 'Repent Walpurgis' [from their debut album], I still don't know what that means. But it was intriguing to me. A Salty Dog is beautiful, and this reminds me of an era when keyboards didn't interfere with the guitar, just like Soft Machine. It's the kind of music that takes up where 'I Am The Walrus' takes off. And these were all great singers. The only ratty singer I liked was Roger Chapman out of Family."

The latest (I think, and at the time of writing) in Disney's reimagining of their classic films (see also: Dumbo, Aladdin, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, etc …) , with this one being a mix of live action and CGI and also - to the best of my knowledge - not actually even released in cinemas, but instead being a Disney+ exclusive even before the worldwide Coronavirus pandemic.

Sticking pretty faithfully to the same beats as the animated original - spoiled Cocker Spaniel, Street Dog, the famous Spaghettis scene (which I can't watch now without thinking of the version with Santa's Little Helper in The Simpsons) - this nonetheless does slightly change parts of the story, with the most noticeable (to me) being the Siamese Cats, who here have a completely new song but are still responsible for Lady ending up on the streets (see, I told you: all Cats are evil!).
