Jesters_folly (230 KP) rated Chernobyl Diaries (2012) in Movies
Nov 23, 2020
Contains spoilers, click to show
There have been a few things set in Pripyat, the abandoned town where the workers of the Chernobyl power plant used to live and almost all of them rely on dogs as a big/main threat. After a slow start 'The Chernobyl Diaries' looked like it was going to follow this pattern, however, the dogs soon give away to a bigger but mostly unseen threat.
I found that the film was predictable in parts both in the action and in some of the scenery used, you know that something was going to happen to the van, you can work out who is going to go missing and anyone who knows anything about Pripyat knows there will be at least one scene with the ferris wheel. However there are still plenty of good jump scares and the fact that we never get a clear view of the killers (although one did remind me of the 'Toxic Avenger')
All in all the 'Chernobyl Diaries' is a slightly above average slasher in the vain of 'The Hills Have Eyes' and 'Wrong Turn' with some creepy moments, not to much gore and a plausible set up.

Jessica Erdas (463 KP) rated A Dog's Purpose in Books
May 16, 2018
I had heard a little about this book before I saw that it was being made into a movie. The concept seemed cute and was definitely a good read. I was not prepared for the amount of sadness that I would have while reading and every time Cameron described the aging of the dogs, I found myself petting mine and holding her closer. Well written and easily embraces the view point of a dog from beginning to end and back again. I think all dog lovers should read this but have a tissue handy.

AT (1676 KP) rated John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019) in Movies
Jul 18, 2019
I liked John Wick chapter 3 for the action. However, I'll say that a few of the action sequences were drawn out a bit longer than necessary. The plot was simple, so it didn't get lost in between the fights. I didn't love Halle Berry's part, but loved the dogs, and the part that they played, eventually linking the two characters together, even if it was for a short period of time. I was honestly getting a little bored with the last major fight sequence, but I did really enjoy the ending!

Kevin Phillipson (9970 KP) rated Cats and Dogs 3: Paws Unite (2020) in Movies
Oct 8, 2020
I can't believe this is the last time I visit my local Cineworld for a while let alone it had to be this one it's okay it was funny. As I've seen both the first two cats and dogs the first one was okay and the second was not so good but this was one slightly better than the second one. Anyway as I don't know when I will be at my Cineworld hopefully wonder woman 1984 fingers crossed end of the year I suppose back to watching my old blu Rays instead

Emma @ The Movies (1786 KP) rated A Dog's Purpose (2017) in Movies
Sep 25, 2019
So today I decided I needed cheering up, so I got a ticket to see A Dog's Purpose. Well it'll cheer you up in the fact that there are puppies in it, but for about 80% of the film you'll be crying. I really hope that dogs do think all of those things... especially about cats. I know there was controversy about animal abuse, but after reading about the incident I've drawn my own conclusions. You'll no doubt have your own too, and that's fine... so let's leave it at that shall we?

Erika Kehlet (21 KP) rated Deadly Dog Days (A Dog Days Mystery, #1) in Books
Feb 21, 2018
Deadly Dog Days is a fun start to a new series. While trying to enjoy her lunch break, Cameron is unfortunate enough to discover a dead body in the canal. She then finds herself, and her soon to be ex-husband, being suspected of murder. Cameron decides to use her team of community service-hour seeking volunteers to help her investigate. Add in one step-daughter who has come to stay, and the victims 5 unruly dogs, and Cameron really has her hands full.

Ok, can I just gush about this cover? That was the first thing that caught my eye! I have a soft spot for combat and working dogs, so naturally after reading the summary I had to request this. Normally I do not go for suspense but this had great buildup and lots of twists and turns! This book slightly reminds me of D.D. Ayres's K-9 Rescue series as they are both suspense romance around a working dog. Really can not wait for book two.
I do not get paid for this netgalley arc~

Caffeinated Fae (464 KP) rated Shelter Dogs in a Photo Booth in Books
Jul 10, 2018
I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was a really cute book but it felt like it was missing something. The pictures were very solid and adorable. Guinnevere Shuster definitely has a talent for photography. My main issue with this book was the writing. The descriptions were all over the place and I wasn't too impressed. Some of the descriptions were in past tense and some in present.
I loved the photos but the text was not my favorite.
Ultimately, if you want a book that is full of completely adorable dogs, this is the book for you!
