I'm a sucker for Jesse Eisenberg. Something about his presence in a film draws me to it and probably allows me to enjoy it more than perhaps what the film itself deserves.

With that being said, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie Vivarium. While primarily focused on two (perhaps two and a half, depending on perspective) the movie draws you in emotionally and doesn't let go until the bitter end.

While various interpretations are definitely possible, I saw it as a scathing review on the social levity that we place on tangible things and the role we allow them to play in our lives. While a bit alarming in pace at times retrospectively, I found the drive of the movie quite satisfying. From the love of a young couple starting their future together to the unenviable realization of what has become, this movie is a ride worth taking.

For people of a certain age, Emily Is Away Too will remind them of being a teenager in the early aughts and late nineties. You play as yourself (more or less) as you attempt to woo either of two girls at your high school: Emily, the alternative hipster chick, or Evelyn, the punk rocker. In that way, it's much like many dating sims. You discover their likes and dislikes and play into them.

What makes Emily Is Away unique is the gameplay. It all takes place, so to speak, in a chat client called "EOL," which functions like AIM or Yahoo! Messenger. You can customize your font, profile, and avatar (the angstier the lyrics in your bio the better, of course). And don't forget to make your text as obnoxious as possible.

To compliment the retro look, the soundtrack consists of the sound of your hard drive working and really authentic chat notifications. It was a trip back in time for me, and it actually made me a little sad in a bittersweet way.

Change of style but still a good read.
In this instalment of the story, we hear from both main characters point of view and to begin with, this was quite disconcerting, however, with already having an emotional investment in the characters I carried on and found it really works. A rewrite of book one to also be in the style would be great or the next book making it clearer why the story is told in this way. In this volume I found the ending to be left in a very uncomfortable place, so if you don't like being left hanging, perhaps you should make sure book 3 is next to you before reading this one.
The character's adventures continue here, with the advancement of the back story as well as adding intriguing additional stories which drive the story forward well, keeping me engaged throughout.
I would recommend this as a good read for all. Just remember my warning about the ending.

Let's just get it out of the way. This is my favorite book of all time. I've read it 8 times & will probably read it many more times, before my time is due. The book is smart, witty & genius. The characters are funny, quirky & silly. The story follows Arthur Dent, a human from Earth, which was just destroyed to make way for an intergalactic highway. He & his friend Ford, who unknown to Arthur, up to this point, is an alien. They hitch-hike aboard a Vogon ship at the last second before the Earth is destroyed. They are then kicked off the ship & wind up on the Heart of Gold, another ship which has an improbability drive. With this drive, the possibilities are endless. And from there, it just gets better. My favorite character is Marvin, the depressed robot. His negativity of everything & unenthusiastic way mirrors my own views on many things. But some of the best parts in the book are of the book within the book, The Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, which is sort of a Galactic Encyclopedia. Except it says DON'T PANIC in large letters on the cover. Entries on poetry & even the creation of the universe are hilarious. And Earth's entry "Mostly Harmless". Anyway, highly recommended. Bobby's Got a Brand-New Car by Zidrou is a fun ride through a child's imagination of grown up things. This was a fun and cute little book, but it isn't clear to children in my view that it is a dream, or his imagination running away with itself.

Little Bobby gets to pick out his dream car (a convertible) and pay for it with his own money (the magic card that pays for everything!). He takes it out for a drive and listens to all the sounds a happy car makes. He picks up his mom from school, but when he gets dad, dad has to sit in the back.

The book never lets on whether this is a daydream, and I think I'm ok with that. Surely children are smart enough to know they can't drive cars yet. The magic card that pays for everything might be a teachable moment, but I say let the kids have a little dream of being big and being on the road.

It's a cute story and the illustrations are perfect. I liked the style that this book had. I also liked that it didn't belittle Bobby.
