If you were to look up the definition of "underrated horror gem" then Intruder would be staring you in the face.
Brought to life by several members of the team behind Evil Dead II, it's no surprise that this movie is equally as fun as it is gory. It's cast of likable characters drive the film for the mostly bloodless first half, with final girl Elizabeth Cox being a stand out.
When things do get gory, Intruder doesn't fuck about. The kills inflicted upon the main cast are pretty damn creative, and incredibly realised by fantastic practical effects courtesy of Robert Kurtzman and Greg Nicotero. The scenes not set in the main supermarket hall have a low budget and dimly lit Evil Dead feel to them, and results in a genuinely nasty atmosphere when coupled with the more violent moments.

It's a shame that Intruder isn't as widely hailed as some of its better known slasher contemporaries, for all of the above reasons.

I'm at odds of how to rate this book because while it was so magical and enchanting and had the most beautiful language and essentially everything I love in a book it somehow didn't give me that feeling that I wanted and that I get from my 5 star reads. I went into this wanting it to be a 5 star read and expecting it to be a 5 star read but for me it just fell a little short of that. I still adored it and want nothing more than to attend the cirque de reves and I like celia bowen would also die for marco alisdair and i so wish it were real. Actual Magic in a book.

That’s what I grew up on, that’s my era. I mean, I remember seeing Star Wars at the drive-in; I’m that guy. But Aliens really upped the game for what the horror genre could be, you know what I mean? Because it was this weird mix of action and horror. You know, the first one was like straight horror, like oh my god, the creepiness, the ickiness of this thing. But then in Aliens, you’re like, “Yo, they got Marines! It’s like that? This is nuts!” It just created this frenzy in me that was like, oh, this is how it’s supposed to be done. I’ll never forget it. Any time Aliens is playing, I can’t turn away. I cannot."
