A touching drama as a young mother tries to cope with the loss of her husband and son in a terrorist attack. Ewan McGregor and Michelle Williams team up again shortly after Deception made around the same time. Williams gives probably her best performance to date. Although the film starts well, it seems to lose some direction in the second half. The ending was ok but from the first 30 minutes this could have been a much stronger film. As it is most people have probably not even heard of it? If you don't mind a drama you should enjoy this.

For 99% of its run time, Obi-Wan Kenobi was a solid 7/10 for me. Having Ewan McGregor back as the titular Jedi is like seeing an old friend after a few years. It drip feeds us Vader content before delivering arguably the best lightsaber duel of the entire franchise. It has several well fleshed out emotional moments, and moves at a decent pace.
And then...then... the audacious bastards had the absolute stones to end the series with a "hello there" and that my friends, moved it to an easy 8/10. Well played Star Wars, well played.

It's not deadpool
It's a bit of fun, I enjoyed the movie. I didn't go expecting it to be a cinematic triumph as most Dc films have let us down so far. (Shazaam, joker, hold your heads up high) but I came away not disappointed. Its a fun mess of a movie that is all over the place kind of like the mind of one Harleen Quinzel. Ewan Mcgregor is a decent villain, Margot is stunning even when she is battered and bruised.

Ron Howard's take on the Dan Brown book of the same name, with that book actually being the first (albeit less famous) of his Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon mystery novels (The Da Vinci code being the more famous).
Like the book, this takes place almost entirely in Rome, with Langdon (Tom Hanks) in a race against time and through the city to unravel the mysteries of the Illumunati during the period immediately after the death of the Pope but before the choosing/ordination of the next.
Also starring Ewan McGregor playing an Irish priest, I have to say that this - unfortunately - didn't really had my attention all that much (although I did have fun playing 'been there! seen that!)

There's little-to-no doubt that Margot Robbie's take on Harley Quinn was the best thing about 2016's Suicide Squad (and was also the first live-action portrayal of that character).
However, is she strong enough to headline a movie on her own?
Especially one also starring Ewan McGregor (clearly having a ball as) the villainous Black Mask?
I'm undecided.
It probably didn't help (also) that I'm more used to seeing Renee Montaya and Black Canary as portrayed in TVs (various) Arrowverse shows (Arrow, The Flash, legends of Tomorrow, etc) rather than as here, and that the film - while name-dropping both - has no place for either Batman or The Joker.

Lee (2222 KP) rated Doctor Sleep (2019) in Movies

I really wish that I had re-watched 'The Shining' before catching Doctor Sleep, as it's been far too long, and I kind of feel it would have helped my enjoyment of this movie a lot more. However, despite all of that, I thought that Doctor Sleep was an incredible movie.
Ewan McGregor gives a subdued, but brilliant performance as the troubled Danny Torrance and Rebecca Ferguson is captivating as the psychic vampire Rose the Hat. Great score, amazing visuals, plenty of nods to The Shining, but still enough to stand out on its own. At 2h 31m, I never felt that the movie was dragging at any point either.
Full review to follow, but for now let's just say that I loved it!

If Logan's Run and The Hunger Games had a baby...
From Michael Bay, the director of every crappy movie over the last 10 years, comes a really good one!
Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson have surprising chemistry as they try and figure out what's going on in their "perfect" society which ends of having a few surprises. When he begins to question his sterile existance and the "Kool-Aid" they have all been told, he begins to figure out what is actually going on behind the scenes.
A surprising good action movie develops with some interesting twists and turns. Say what you want about Bay. He can certainly orchestrate a good action sequence when he wants to and doesn't have 27 robots fighting each other at the same time.
I highly recommend checking this one out.
