I struggled with this from the start. I guess i thought it would be a modern sort of kindnap-and-survive-with-a-little-help-from-your-friends, not some sort of old-fashioned fantasy. The Fae are not my favourite thing to read about--unless you're Trent Kalamack and co :D.

Add in the fact that it wasn't a smooth style but was rather stilted and very awkward reading. It was taking too long to get interesting and i just didn't even really care anymore by the 32% mark.

Not for me at all.

So, I seem to be on an Urban Fantasy binge read at the minute. I enjoyed this more than I expected I would after reading book 5-13 back to back of Kim Harrison's The Hollows/Rachel Morgan series, and getting totally absorbed in it.

This was different to most other UF books I've read, which is good. I'm not normally a fan of the fae but I actually really enjoyed this--or maybe I mean Falin. I'm really intrigued by him and what could possible happen between him and Alex next

Can't wait to read book 2!

Disclaimer: I received an e-copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

At the start, we meet Ciarra, the tribal healer, doing her best in a bad situation by performing a spell on tribesmen that will turn them into werewolves. Unfortunately, there's no way to turn them back, as her spirit guides tell her. But at that moment, a mysterious man, Aison, comes out of the forest and grabs Ciarra, taking her to a cave deep in the woods, where his brethren, the Strigoi, those beings the werewolves were created to kill, are waiting. Aison and the others force Ciarra to alter the spell, forever cursing all future members of her tribe to become weres at 26 years old, as they have kidnapped the pregnant leader's wife, Kimi, as leverage. Ciarra is attacked by the other Strigoi, and Aison turns her, but not before Kimi gives birth and dies. Ciarra saves the baby and gives her to two Fae, enslaved by the Strigoi, to protect in their world until the time is right for her to meet her tribal mate and help bring down the original Strigoi. Years later, we meet Lea, the "wingless Fae" from the prophecy, and her story continues from there.

I really enjoyed this book, as there were lots of supernatural elements that I found really interesting. There are Strigoi, werewolves, Fae, tribal curses, spirit guides, etc., and it was really fun to read. However, I feel it would've been better had it been longer, as there were several instances I thought were rushed, such as the battle in the woods between the werewolves and Strigoi. I think it would've made a great novel, including a little more depth to the battle, the tribe's way of life and coping with the curse, etc. However, I still liked it a lot, and I look forward to more.

Viper :The Prophecy (Odins Wolves MC 2)

⭐️⭐️⭐️

Gaia. the mother of all created a werewolf shifter class to serve as guardians. To avoid war, Gaia gifted those that answered the call to Odin, who infused the warriors with immortality creating a class of demigods who fight for justice.
20 years ago, the world found out that humans were not the only Earth dwellers. Now Dark Fae and Shifters live in the light.
Logan Haagan: Viper, Viking demigod, and retired Dallas police officer will join his brothers in White Horse, OK as part of the OWMC who will work to exact justice when the law can’t. Before leaving Dallas, Viper sees Lady Death fight in an underground ring. The fight has mafia ties and ruthlessly pits all manner of dark fae creatures often encouraging the death of the loser.
Billie, Lady Death has been fighting for the Tromlui capo, Cayum since she was a teenager. She becomes a champion of the ring and wants nothing more than to win her contract back and help her friend who is being threatened. Viper and Synne, a dark fae, work to get her released, but Cayum is not easily discouraged and will stop at nothing to keep Billie right where he wants her.
Viper and Billie are sent to New Orleans to uncover a curse, unearth an ancient vampire relic, and discover an age-old prophecy that will change everything...
Don’t miss this epic tale of myths, justice, and prophecy.

I did enjoy this one but think I was expecting to feel the same as I did about book 1 and I didn’t. The world building is really good with complex characters and storylines. Loved catching up with Odins wolves and finding other creatures especially loving Deaths identity . Also a gator shifter that’s a first for me too!

Venus Trap (Hidden Portals Trilogy #1) by Maya Daniels
Venus Trap is the first book in the Hidden Portals series, and we start off with a storm, a death, and a mad king. Sounds good, right? Wrong! This is brilliant.

Artemis is a Fae, Raphael is a vampire. We also meet with other Fae, Humans, Witches, Vampires, and Demons are mentioned. So right there, we have different species, all with their own history and thoughts, and pitted against each other. Who is telling the truth? Who will fight with who?

We find out more about Artemis' history as the story progresses, and the reasons she has for feeling the way she does. Raphael has distanced himself from the rest of his race, partly due to his friend, Claude, otherwise known as the mad king.

With intrigue, steam, action, wit, and a strong, sassy female paired with a strong, opinionated male, this book has something for everyone. There were no editing or grammatical errors I noticed, and I thoroughly enjoyed every word.

With an epic finishing line, this will definitely leave you wanting more. Absolutely recommended by me.

CONSPIRACY OF RAVENS is the first book in the Raven Crawford series, and we meet Raven who is half-Fae and half-shifter. She is living on a knife's edge financially due to her ex-boyfriend and is too proud to ask for help. Instead, she gives up on her dreams and works at a dead-end job.

Her life changes when her twin disappears and two dark Fae Lords enter her life. Her mother has always warned her away from the Underworld, although she doesn't really know why. This means she has a woeful lack of knowledge where this is concerned, which doesn't help when she figures out her brother's disappearance and the appearance of those two are linked.

This was a great fantasy book with plenty of detail given. I will admit to finding the first half of the book a bit slower than the second half. Some parts of it seem to be repeated, but so long as you don't mind that, it's all good. The attraction between Cole and Raven is intense and instantaneous, but Raven doesn't trust it. This book concludes nicely for this part, but also leaves it wide open for the next book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more. Most definitely recommended by me.

Bite of Winter ( Fae’s Captive book 3)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶🌶

The Red Plains are hot. But my fae king? Even hotter. So, we kind of got captured by a warlike clan of Vundi warriors. Sounds bad, right? But they treat us as guests, and I’m coming to like them despite the ongoing threat of me being shipped off to the king beyond the mountain. I still endeavor to reach the winter kingdom and find a way back home … until the Vundi high priestess reveals that I may have more ties to the fae world than I ever imagined. On top of that, Leander knows just what buttons to press to get me naked, in a tub, and panting for him. My resolve is failing on all fronts, but worse than that, I discover danger is even closer than I realized.

Well that was just what I’ve been waiting for with this series it’s finally getting somewhere. It still seems a short book but I really got into the characters and the story more with this instalment. Liander is still doing my head in a little bit now he’s finally mated maybe he’ll shut up about it. It ends on another cliffhanger which is fine as I don’t mind them!

Weaving of multiple pantheons into a clear story (0 more)
The tide crests
This is my probably my favorite or at least top 2 in a fairly long series. This is where I feel like the authors voice becomes solid and some of the small writing issues in the first few books are put behind him. The ability to write in multiple pantheons and weave them around each other, without compromising each other, starts to truly show itself. Plus I love the fae as they are portrayed in Jim's version, and as the series goes on, all the characters only get more depth and interesting for their secrets.

Each book makes this world a little bigger and scarier (0 more)
A worthy follow-up to Storm Front
I'll be upfront, I love this series of novels so will be fairly biased.
Our erstwhile hero, Harry Dresden, faces new threats in this book from wolves, werewolves and the authorities (mortal, magical and fae) and he has only his wits and his friends (few and far between) to help him.
Dresden is a believable hero in an unbelievable world. Magic has a cost, it doesn't solve everything, and sometimes a guy has to rely on himself and those he holds most dear in order to win the day, or even survive it.

I was really getting into this... though I can't for the life of me get Integrity's feelings against going for something romantic with a certain fae? It's pretty obvious he wants to at least sleep with you if not more!

And considering the romance aspect of this isn't even the main part of the storyline, I have to admit that i was pretty intrigued by the rest of it too. I have a very big urge to go and buy book 2 so i can see what Integrity is planning with her gang and to see if anything is going to happen between her and her love interest.
