Should a journalist be impartial or should they do the right thing, even if it means compromising their source?
Should a journalist be impartial and just tell the story, or should they do the right thing, even if it means compromising their source? This is the question posed by columnist/ college lecturer Sam Turner when he receives an email that could lead to murder.
When a young woman is being stalked by an untouchable powerful man, she considers that killing him may be her only way out. However when he turns up dead, it may be that she is not the only person who wanted him gone. This is a wonderfully suspenseful mystery told from the perspectives of three different main characters that offer interesting insight into mindset of murder. It is set against a political backdrop that is pulled from the headlines but not at all cliche.
Though the murder needs solving, and Sam Turner, an ethics advice columnist and throw back to traditional journalist, does a fantastic job of chasing down the story and the facts, it is simply the vehicle to get inside Sam’s life which is where the true meat of the story lies. His struggle with ethics of his decisions and the changing circumstances of both his career and personal life made for great reading. I would very much enjoy seeing more books about Sam and people he is close to.

A HEART OF GOLD AND GLASS is the start of a fantastic new series called Secret Fairy Tales, and we begin with a retelling of Rumpelstiltskin.
In a kingdom where magic is an everyday occurrence, some magic is more highbrow than others. Hugo can create anything with glass, which is wonderful, but not so highly placed. His mother is desperate for him to marry well, so tells people he can spin straw into gold. This gets him locked up, where a strange man saves him. Prince Everand is the heir to the throne, and fed up with his mother's matchmaking. Together, these two have adventures, find love, stop a war, and reunite families. All in a day's work.
I loved these two. Hugo is humble without being too self-deprecating. Ev is charming and funny, especially when he is head over heels for Hugo. I thoroughly enjoyed all the scenes with Hugo's brothers, and I even liked his mother. She reminded me of Mrs Bennett.
I thought this was a brilliant start to the series. It is sweet and sexy, with great world-building, and plenty of characters I want to see more of. It is Dorian's turn next, and I can't wait. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by me.

ACCIDENTALLY EMPLOYED AN INCUBUS is the third and final book in the Briar Coven trilogy. While officially "reading prior books is recommended, but not required," I would recommend that you do read the others. The timelines overlap, and all the characters are mentioned in each other's books.
It takes a while to lay the groundwork for this story, leaving the reader with two or three separate storylines to follow (depending on which chapter they're on). Blaise and Ambrose are roommates first, then more, then not. Blaise and Caitlyn find each other, followed by Ambrose finding them both. Then, we also have an old nemesis, plus her daughter, causing trouble.
There is a lot that goes on, but it's completely worth it. Creep isn't as cute as BooDini or House (hence the name), but it all becomes clear in the end. I love her attitude, too!
I would love an extra book to be added to this, showing Jen, Lex, and Caitlyn with their mates. Actually, I want more than that. I want Jake and Billy to have their story, and now I really, REALLY, need Priscilla's. She has a great story arc!!!
A fantastic addition to the series that I thoroughly enjoyed. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by me.

DEMON DATING SERVICE is a lighthearted book full of magical mishaps caused by well-meaning demons. It starts with them being bored and looking for a new game. One of them comes up with the idea of renting out a room to a local college student, and they take turns scaring the student. Sounds like a plan, right? Well, it would have worked except Luke is usually too exhausted and bone weary to be scared. Plus, he likes horror movies and is a nice person. Basically, they all love him and don't want to scare him any longer. So what they decide to do is help him with his crush on Matteo, and focus all their game on getting the two of them together.
This leads to plenty of laughs, mayhem, and the sheer wonderfulness that is this group of demons. I didn't want to get to the end of this book, due to the warm hug it was giving me as I read it. Each of the demons is fantastic in its own way, and Matteo and Luke fit right in. There is some nastiness with bullying, but that is also dealt with perfectly.
This was a great read that was brilliantly written and paced, and that kept me perfectly entertained. Definitely recommended by me.

This leads to plenty of laughs, mayhem, and the sheer wonderfulness that is this group of demons. I didn't want to get to the end of this book, due to the warm hug it was giving me as I read it. Each of the demons is fantastic in its own way, and Matteo and Luke fit right in. There is some nastiness with bullying, but that is also dealt with perfectly.
This was a great read that was brilliantly written and paced, and that kept me perfectly entertained. Definitely recommended by me.

TAMING THE DRAGON is the fifth book in the Sparks of Desire series, but you can read it as a standalone as I did.
Kaden has baggage in his past which is currently affecting both his present and his possible future. Fate has spoken and given him the perfect mate except for one small problem - she's human. His dragon doesn't have a problem with that, nor does anyone else in his family but, for Kaden, this is a BIG problem.
Avery is a strong young woman, confident in so many ways apart from her own self, thanks to the majority of her family. Originally, she believes Kaden couldn't possibly be interested in her but Fate won't be denied. They have issues to work out, that's for sure.
This was a great story that kept my interest. I do love it when the characters are not just straight-forward, without any issues. Kaden is the strong, silent type who has to learn how to share with others. And Avery has to believe she is good enough, just as she is. Kelly and Bella are on hand to help with that, and Kaden also has help with his issues.
Another fantastic read by this author, and absolutely recommended by me.

This is the story of Selene, a high school girl who has inner strength and wisdom but is trying to keep her head down and be as invisible as she can be until high school is over. This is mainly because her dad works at the local factory that is owned by the father of the bane of her life, Sandra. Sandra is a bully and is content to pick on Selene. This appears as nothing more than a spoilt little rich girl to start with but, as is typical in Dean's stories, nothing is quite as it seems.
These characters are all multi-dimensional with very real fears, laughs and loves. There is no insta-love in this story (thank goodness) although there is a reconnection that is made. These characters are all multi-dimensional with very real fears, laughs and loves. There is no insta-love in this story (thank goodness) although there is a reconnection that is made. The back story is given to you in a drip-feed fashion so that it doesn't overpower the current story but you are still getting the information needed for a deep understanding of what is happening.
This is a gripping story that will draw you in but one warning, it does come with a cliffhanger ending that will sucker-punch you and leave you gasping. If you like paranormal romance that comes complete with intense emotion then I can highly recommend this one. Another fantastic series by Dean Murray starts with a bang!
