Erika (17789 KP) rated Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) in Movies
Feb 28, 2018
Disclaimer: All of the movies in Phase 2 of the MCU are nearly the same. Winter Soldier's just my favorite out of all of them.
One: I like Anthony Mackie as Falcon, he's a great addition to the MCU. Two: Scarlett Johansson was the perfect partner in this edition. I wasn't thrilled when they 'killed' Bucky off in The First Avenger, so I was all for Bucky returning as the Winter Soldier. It's a tightly paced film, and it's a good Captain America film.

An expedition to track a mythological creature in British Columbia is fraught with peril before they've even reached their destination. But who is behind the danger? While I often praise the mysteries in this series, this is my favorite because of the great twists and turns. And the reprint allowed him to add one sentence that took care of a plot hole from the first edition.

So glad it's a movie. Too bad there's no character
I'm a theater person. More specifically I'm a musical theater person. When word came that they made my favorite show into a movie I went fan girl ape s*** about it. Upon watching the movie, it fell flat. The actors didnt bring any pizazz to these dynamic characters and sang the songs without emotion. Watch it to appreciate what it could have been
AT (1676 KP) rated Jurassic Park (Jurassic Park, #1) in Books
Sep 16, 2018 (Updated Sep 16, 2018)
I absolutely love Jurassic Park! Michael Crichton is one of my favorite authors because his books are so different from each other. Jurassic Park, the movie, was amazing for its time, and is still one of my favorites. However, the book was better! The movie didn't even touch on half of the things that were in the book. If you're looking for a great, entertaining read, pick this up! Don't just say you've seen the movie, so you know it all. The book is even better.
Erika (17789 KP) rated Vincent and Theo: The Van Gogh Brothers in Books
Nov 26, 2018
I read this book last year, and since reading it, I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. Van Gogh is my favorite artist, and I love reading everything and anything about him. This book focuses on the relationship between Theo and Vincent, and uses several letters that they wrote back and forth. This book also didn't hold back some details, such as multiple mentions of the fact they both had syphilis. So, it doesn't shy away from these details, which I appreciate.

Again, Bardugo is killing it. Although I had previously read some of these gems I thought it was a perfect collection of stories to have all in one place. The book sleeve is beautiful and the book binding is just as lovely. The illustrations were so beautiful and fit like puzzle pieces with each story. If I had to choose a favorite, I would choose the last story in the collection "When Water Sang Fire" - I definitely couldn't put the book down once I landed there.

Better than expected
I was apprehensive to watch this one as Han Solo is my favorite Star Wars character. I thought it would not be done very well. I was pleasantly surprised. While not the best Star Wars movie out there, it holds it's own and does justice to the characters it portrays. With plenty of action, cool effects and a decent "origins" storyline this movie didn't disappoint me. Fun for the whole family and a film any fan of the franchise should enjoy. Worth a watch.
Remy Tankel Carroll (36 KP) rated The Marriage Bureau: True Stories From 1940s London Matchmakers in Books
Dec 19, 2018
I loved this book. It's an original topic and a great story about 2 female entrepreneurs in a time when the business world was mostly dominated by men. It is well written and well researched. It's fascinating to see what people deemed important in a mate during a time of war. I think my favorite part was reading some of the actual requests that were written during the interview. It just goes to show that everyone has someone out there who's his or her perfect match.

I decided to listen to this book after my brother got me hooked on watching the TV show Parks and Rec. I thought that Amy had a fun storytelling voice and the tales are funny and interesting. My favorite parts were definitely those that were related to Parks and Rec. Stories about the cast and some really great behind the scenes facts. I didn’t always find myself being able to relate to Amy or sharing her humor, but overall I really enjoyed the read.
