trytobeoriginal (21 KP) rated The View from the Cheap Seats: Selected Nonfiction in Books
Sep 12, 2017
Let me preface this by saying that I might be biased, since I have loved everything Neil Gaiman has written. Still, I'm generally not a big fan of nonfiction, especially essays and speeches, and I have loved this. Part of that is that it is speeches and essays about reading, books, comics, and the people that made some of my favorite books and comics. There is humor, passion, intelligence, and nostalgia in almost every essay.
It took me longer to finish this than it usually would, and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

the visual tricks to keep you feeling unsettled (1 more)
So much nightmare worthy material
The Shining is a masterpiece is a lot of ways, Stanly Kubrick is Amazing
an Iconic Film. A must for the Horror fan. I highly recommend seeing the documentary on the visual tricks the film used, like the layout of the building and how it's impossible to actually be the way it is. Plus here's a alternate movie poster from Tom Whalen, one of my favorite movie poster creators.

This is one of my favorite books
I loved this book, it made me laugh and cry. It was easy to relate to the characters and to get in the story while forgetting everything else. I remember one time I was driving the bus while reading this book and I was so absorb in the story that I didn’t realized that I said “oh no!” Outloud until I notice that everyone around was staring at me lol. I would recommend this book to anyone that likes a good story with great characters.
Erika (17788 KP) rated The Oracle Year in Books
Apr 22, 2018
This book was a selection for Book of the Month this April. I chose it because Charles Soule has written some of my favorite comics.
This book is about Will Dando, who receives several predictions from one dream. He posts select predictions on 'the Site' and he is known as 'The Oracle'. The government is after him, and religious sects are calling his the devil/blasphemer. It was impulsively readable.
But, it was just good. It wasn't great. Which, was a bummer. Because though it was readable, there was nothing new about it.

Jessica Cashen (1 KP) rated Disney Manga: Tim Burton's the Nightmare Before Christmas in Books
May 16, 2018
This was my first manga....that being said it took me a bit to get used to how you have to read it. I was able to fly through it once I got the hang of it because this is one of my FAVORITE Disney movies. I really enjoyed the artwork as well. I think I would rather read manga in book form though. So I have the book to start a collection. I received an ARC copy from Netgalley for an honest review.

MelanieTheresa (997 KP) rated Zoo in Books

I have always found the concept of HAC (human animal conflict) highly intriguing. The idea that one day the animals will take back the planet? I find this not only completely believable, but entirely possible. The reason given for the HAC in this book (I won't spoil it) is also completely believable, AND entirely possible, in my opinion. I was riveted from start to finish. This may be one of my favorite recent James Patterson books. The story was well told, engaging, and when you really think about it, kind of terrifying.

I love Susanna Kearsley's novels, they are, in fact, my favorite sort of novels. Partially historical fiction, modern fiction, with a hint of supernatural in the form of ghosts, typically.
I was excited when I read the synopsis of this novel, and couldn't wait to read it. I was slightly disappointed by it, because it wasn't as good as her other novels. The historical portion was a little slow, and the modern novel portion was fairly predictable. I still enjoyed it, just not as much as I would have liked to enjoy it.

graveyardgremlin (7194 KP) rated Urban Shaman (Walker Papers, #1) in Books
Feb 15, 2019
I loved this book! Fast, fun, and spirited (in more ways than one!), it was a great, interesting, and unique read with a wonderful heroine. I liked that it deals with both Celtic and American Indian ways, which is really different in the urban fantasy scene. Joanne was very realistic, the plot fascinating, and her sidekick, Gary, was a nice change of pace. While everyone won't like this, I highly recommend reading it anyway. I can't wait to get to get to the sequels, this is definitely one of my favorite new urban fantasy series!
graveyardgremlin (7194 KP) rated Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Time of Your Life (Season 8, Volume 4) in Books
Feb 15, 2019
TIME OF YOUR LIFE had a very confusing plot and I barely managed to follow it. I have a feeling it would have worked better shot as a television show. The best part featured Xander and Dawn's dialogue, the rest was just okay, although the additions with giants, centaurs, and forest creatures are getting ridiculous and carrying BtVS a little too far away from the series I love. Also, I didn't find the artwork as pleasing to the eye as the previous graphic novels. Definitely my least favorite in season eight so far.
