Liliannar (58 KP) rated Bears vs Babies in Tabletop Games
May 25, 2018
Family friendly (2 more)
Easy to play
Interesting box
Short play time (1 more)
Repetitive play
Enjoyable but not a favorite
My 9 year old absolutely loves this game which means it's a nice way to play a quick game as a family before dinner. That being said, it's repetitive in nature, and the winner of the game can be determined in the first 5 minutes or so. There isn't much skill or strategy to the game. This is a game that is great the first two or three times you play, but after that it's just not very interesting. I'm glad I got it on sale for less than half price. I wouldn't ever pay more than $10 for it.

J. L. Stowers (136 KP) rated Ibotta: Cash Back Rewards App in Apps
Apr 25, 2018
Used to be better...
I used to really love ibotta but then it seemed to evolve more toward a focus on alcohol.
I have nothing against alcohol, we just don't buy hardly any.
My favorite deals were the produce deals. We would often see what ibotta had rebates on for the week and plan our meals accordingly. Unfortunately, the deals also have shifted toward boxed foods, which doesn't work for a family that does a lot of cooking from scratch, like us.
It has the potential to be amazing but it's just not what it used to be and most of the time we don't even bother with it anymore.

Kaylin (39 KP) rated Happy! - Season 1 in TV
Feb 17, 2019
Christopher Meloni and Patton Oswalt are great (2 more)
The effects are amazing
The writing is almost consistently good
I was looking for new things to watch when one of my closest friends recommended Happy! to me. And boy am I glad he did. Happy! is an insane ride into the deepest recesses of the seedy underbelly of human trafficking, hit men, and drug fueled benders. It's wild and violent and insane and absolutely amazing.
I'm aware that this show is not going to be for everyone. It's super violent and the subject matter is intense. That being said it's probably one of my favorite shows I've ever seen.

Erika (17789 KP) rated Captain Marvel, Volume 3: Alis Volat Propriis in Books
Apr 28, 2019 (Updated Apr 28, 2019)
FINALLY, my library had a digital copy of the 3rd volume of Kelly Sue DeConnick's 2nd Captain Marvel run (yeah, Captain Marvel's runs are confusing as hell). This run was right before Marvel Comics essentially blew up the universe for the battleverse.
The first issues involve Carol tracking down Chewie, her flerken, because she was stolen. they were generally entertaining. There was then a strange filler issue, which was meh, then Carol returned to Earth. A very strange collection overall, the first issues were the best. This volume also features my favorite Captain Marvel panels that I completely relate to...
Cough, Cough, had Larson actually read this run, she'd have known Carol doesn't wear makeup.

Maris (8 KP) rated The Cruel Prince in Books
Jun 10, 2019
Absolutely stunning! magical, mystical creatures, and a dark truth. I loved this story and is one of my top favorite reads of 2018.
Are main character Jude is a mortal living in the Fey world with her twin sister. They are bullied from other creatures. Holy Black did a wonderful job writing this story were I could visualize the whole story in my head like a movie.
This lovely gem is such a dark, twisted story that the ending had me shocked. I can not wait for the second book as I need to have more from this story.

AquaWoman (37 KP) rated Somewhere in Time (1980) in Movies
Jun 11, 2019
Casting chemistry (3 more)
Beautiful love story
Gorgeous scenery
Beautiful writing
This is by far one of my favorite films of all time. A stunning and heart warming time travel love story. Where a man falls in love with a woman that can only be found in another time. Played by Christopher Reeve(Superman) and Jane Seymour, the main characters love story is not to be missed. I've actually visited the place where this movie was filmed. It took my breath away, I felt like I was part of the film when I was there. My grandmother introduced me to this movie, and I will definetely be introducing this to my future grandchildren

Mark Halpern (153 KP) rated Toy Story (1995) in Movies
Jan 22, 2018 (Updated Jan 22, 2018)
you got a fiend in me
What really happens when we aren't playing with our toys when we are out. In this Pixar movie they come to life and live among each other and are like a family. Woody is the head toy and Andy's favorite but, when a brand new toy gets given to Andy for his birthday is there a new king of the castle. Toys are always evolving and just like the new hot girl transferring to a new school and taking over the roost from the current popular one there is competition for top dog. Will Andy's toys get along or does one get discarded for newer additions.

Erika (17789 KP) rated The Four Feathers (1939) in Movies
Jan 28, 2018
This movie is the best adaptation of the novel, "The Four Feathers' by A.E.W. Mason, and probably one of my top ten favorite films. Well worth the $40 to buy the Criterion Collection blu-ray. The Four Feathers is about a soldier that decides not to deploy to Egypt when needed, and his friends and fiance send him 4 feathers for his cowardice. The then goes and proves that he's not a coward, and returns the feathers to each of the four people that gave him. He breaks his friends out of jail, gets one to safety, and finally shuts up his fiance's father who tells the same, inaccurate story at every dinner party.

Mark @ Carstairs Considers (2326 KP) rated I Really Like Slop! (Elephant & Piggie, #24) in Books
Mar 9, 2018
It’s lunch time, and Piggie has whipped up a batch of her favorite treat – slop. And she wants to share it with her best friend – Gerald. Will he try it? Will he like it if he does?
Yes, this is a variation on Green Eggs and Ham, but the execution is flawless. There are plenty of laughs, both from Gerald’s reaction and some of what Piggie says. Plus, the moral about it being okay if you don’t like something as long as you tried it is perfectly done and a natural part of the book.

Erika (17789 KP) rated The Mummy (1999) in Movies
Mar 20, 2018
This version of The Mummy is one of my favorite films. I love period films with archaeology/adventure in them, so this movie was perfect for me. Brendan Fraser is so amusing and does a great job as O'Connell, and I love Rachel Weisz as Evie. Yes, this film was based off of the original 'The Mummy' with Boris Karloff, but it didn't bother me at all. Watching it now, some of the special effects look pretty lame. I wish they would remaster and fix the CGI in this film and the Mummy Returns, because it's somewhat cringe-worthy. I still watch this movie all the time, and I'll continue to re-watch it over and over again.
