Mekkin B. (122 KP) is asking for a recommendation

I got to see the original Rosetta stone the other day. It's truly an amazing artifact that unlocked so much knowledge that might otherwise have been lost.

In that spirit, I'd love to hear from you: What is your favorite book/movie/TV show that has been translated from another language? (Dubbing and subtitles are both acceptable).

Mine are currently One Hundred Years of Solitude and Njáls saga.

Books are altogether another behemoth as most have been translated into other languages. Authors such as Albert Camus, Franz Kafka, Jean Paul Sartre, Dostoevsky, Gunther Grass, Han Kang, Rousseau, Christine de Pizan...it's endless ?

The Hangman's Daughter series, by Oliver Pötzsch, is one of my favorite translations. Originally published in German, I believe. I read them a few years ago - the first one here: https://goddessinthestacks.wordpress.com/2013/10/21/the-hangmans-daughter-by-oliver-potzsch/
and the next three several months later: https://goddessinthestacks.wordpress.com/2014/01/17/book-review-the-dark-monk-the-beggar-king-and-the-poisoned-pilgrim/

I really loved Angelfall the story is unique and I really loved all the characters. Ee really has a way writing her characters that they are gritty and real plus her female characters especially Penryn was definitely my favorite she was such a bad ass and I just wanted her to kick everyone's ass!

Also I was so happy to finally come across a book without instalove thank you Ee!

I enjoyed reading Elizabeth Bishop's poems. She writes simply, but it is still beautiful. I enjoyed how much she varies in her writings instead of just writing the same thing over and over again. One of my favorite poems was "Crusoe in England" because it took the story of Robinson Crusoe and showed what Crusoe was feeling after he returned from the island.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book of poetry.

Well, I did it. I officially finished rereading all the Harry Potter books before July 31st, 2016.

Honestly, I don't know what to say about this book that hasn't already been said. This is beautiful, haunting, and it definitely brings back all of my emotions. This is simply one of the best series I have ever read & worth the time.

This will ALWAYS be one of my favorite series.

Of the whole series this is my favorite, mostly because of the cats. They are very sassy. This story is told from Morwen's pov. Killer the rabbit reminds me of the quote "you got all worked up over a rabbit." -- Mrs. Brisby, Secret of NIHM. Because he is just as silly as his name suggests. This book takes itself a little more seriously than the others but is still light hearted.

I had the advantage of not having read this book, so I was able to go into the series with completely fresh eyes, and I enjoyed it very much. David Tennant is a terrific demon. Michael Sheen has some truly funny moments. I could have used more Jon Hamm. "I'm the archangel fucking Gabriel" was one of my favorite lines of the entire series. Overall a fun show!

I'm debating whether to get Prime just to watch this! Glad to hear it's good!

Remains one of my favorite movies in any genre.
No, I didn't watch the ridiculous TV reboot or the short-lived Broadway show, nor will I. The original holds up just fine with its commentary on society and political correctness. Christian Slater does some of his best work, and Winona Ryder can do no wrong. Plus, baby Shannen Doherty! (she's just 17 here!)

An absolute classic in my book.
