Dean (6927 KP) rated Death Wish (2018) in Movies
Jan 20, 2019
This is a decent enough revenge action film. It's not really a remake as such as the story is different to the old Death wish film. There's a bit of a gore, expected as Eli Roth is the director. The story is good and the violent encounters feel raw and not glamourised. A entertaining film but if you fancy something more indepth try @The Brave One (2007) or @Death Sentence (2007) both slightly better I felt.

A very good film with some young English actors. I'm not sure if this was a film made for TV but it has that feel to it. It's raw, gritty and brutal showing the life of a group of teenagers in West London. Unfortunately some scenes are quite true to what is going on with inner city teenagers today and the gang culture. Fades a little towards the end but still a good watch.......now to see the sequel Adulthood.

Decent cast (1 more)
Good cinematography
Not scary (2 more)
Predictable jump scares
Poor direction
Another Grudge
We really don't need yet another film in the Grudge series. Another re-boot that offers nothing new. The usual predictable jump scares mixed with an odd feel. At times it felt more like a detective drama than a Horror film, but it just doesn't fit. It does look nice at times, the detective film vibe sections at least, but it's a waste of a good cast.

Auburn (57 KP) rated Just Friends in Books

Just friends focuses on what happens when you have so much self doubt and feel invisible. Josh doesn't really believe in himself and knows he isn't good enough for new girl Jena. When they become friends and she relys on him his situation becomes more screwed up. A should he/shouldn't he starts. Add in an old friendship that takes a backseat and it's a lot to read.
For me the inner monologue was just a tad annoying. I felt the ending was suitable but the way it comes around just doesn't feel complete.

A decent Thriller
A very entertaining thriller which is slightly weird and very creepy. Apparently entirely filmed on an iPhone. This does make the visuals look a little less polished but also enhances the overall feel of the film. I wouldn't say it's scary but it does have a slight claustrophobic feel as the main character seems unable to do much about her situation. There are a couple of plot holes you might need to ignore. Overall though a good thriller and something different to the norm.
Well, this was kinda fun, it really pushed to get the Cinderella tribute feel that didn't quite jibe for me but I have all the love for the robot Iko in this.
We have Cinder the cyborg battling adversity and a mysterious past. I had some strong Atila vibes through this including the rather open ending just building for the next book, it's a good set up and I'm looking forward to reading the next book but this did feel like just an intro and lacked some satisfaction in of itself.

OTT brainless action flick
I was a fan of the original, it had a totally OTT action feel to it. Like a Bond film on steroids. This is better than the 2nd offering, but it's still very predictable and silly at times. One to switch the brain off to.
