We have briefly met Justin during Marcus and Kelly's book. We know he's married to Sarah and 'might' be having difficulties, but that's about it. When the book starts, Justin and Sarah are just about to get married. Time flows fairly quickly at the start of the book as you get up-to-date with what is going on for them. Before you know it, you are in the main part of the story and all the emotions that go along with it.
Sarah and Justin both lose themselves and have to try and find their way back, but whether that is together or separately is yet to be seen. Outside circumstances and internal feelings and emotions stand in their way, together with the normal 'pressure' from family. Being young, married and having to live up to expectations is always a hard thing, especially when you are drowning in sorrow.
A wonderful story told with feeling and sensitivity, and a great addition to the Songbird novel. I really hope that Jane finds her own happiness soon. Definitely recommended.

Sarah and Justin both lose themselves and have to try and find their way back, but whether that is together or separately is yet to be seen. Outside circumstances and internal feelings and emotions stand in their way, together with the normal 'pressure' from family. Being young, married and having to live up to expectations is always a hard thing, especially when you are drowning in sorrow.
A wonderful story told with feeling and sensitivity, and a great addition to the Songbird novel. I really hope that Jane finds her own happiness soon. Definitely recommended.

Taryn watched her parents murdered whilst she was still a young girl. She spent the whole summer in therapy trying to deal with what she saw and how she feels. Of course, she can't tell them what really happened, because they don't believe her. After a while, she pretends that she is okay, just so that she can go home. Her friends have always been there for her, and she is beyond thankful for them. But change is a-coming, and Taryn doesn't deal very well with change...
This is an emotion-filled book that shows the deep love that friends can have for each other, and the support that is given without question. Taryn has to face up to her past, as well as shocks in her present and an uncertain future, but throughout Aiden and Kenzie are there for her.
Very well-written, leaving you in no doubt about Taryn's feelings or state of mind. She is witty and sharp, as well as vulnerable. This is a winning combination. With a steady pace building up to the conclusion, this was a great read that I would recommend.

This is an emotion-filled book that shows the deep love that friends can have for each other, and the support that is given without question. Taryn has to face up to her past, as well as shocks in her present and an uncertain future, but throughout Aiden and Kenzie are there for her.
Very well-written, leaving you in no doubt about Taryn's feelings or state of mind. She is witty and sharp, as well as vulnerable. This is a winning combination. With a steady pace building up to the conclusion, this was a great read that I would recommend.

Penelope is still fending off her unwanted suitors, thanks to the rules of Greek hospitality. The men are drinking the cellars dry and eating as much as they want, whenever they want, and still expecting Penelope to choose one of them. They all think Odysseus is dead.
Matters are only made more complicated by the arrival of Elektra and her brother Orestes, King of the Mycenae - and he isn’t doing at all well after his mothers murder. Then Menelaus turns up for a ‘visit’.
Really, Penelope is being sorely tested, but she’s canny enough to cope with whatever the fates decide to throw at her.
I enjoyed reading everything from Aphrodite’s point of view - at least you can’t accuse her of favouritism. These gods don’t seem to appreciate that humans have feelings too.
Claire North’s women in this story (Penelope, Elektra and Helen especially) is what makes it special. It’s clear that all three have been through a lot at the hands of men - yet they keep going.
I’m currently the third and final instalment from my local library. I know how it all ends, but I can’t wait to read Claire North’s version (no spoiler: it’s not disappointing me at all so far!).

ALL TWISTED UP is the first book in the FBI Files (Spec. Ops. Tac Team), featuring Nash and Joshua. Nash is on the team, a bit of a playboy (I'm being polite!), while Joshua looks after his family and works two jobs. These two couldn't be any different. Trying to keep Joshua alive after he's targeted by a cartel is what unites them.
This was a page-turner, for sure. Each of the main characters in the group was interesting, and I can't wait to learn more about each of them. As for Nash and Joshua, well, there's plenty of heat between them, but feelings too. Let's just say the playboy stops playing away.
I will admit, I wasn't paying too much attention when the different cartels were mentioned. It was good enough for me to know 'a' cartel was after Joshua, and Candy's team were on hand to save the day.
A great read that I thoroughly enjoyed and absolutely recommend. Now, when's the next one out?

Love Forms was an enjoyable read - I liked it. It looks at the complex feelings Dawn has in the search for her daughter that she gave cup at birth. She now has two adult sons who are aware of their older sister, but Dawn still feels as though something, or someone, is missing.
She seems to have given up many things in her life all for the benefit of others. Giving up her daughter was to stop the scandal for her family; she gave up her career for the benefit of her marriage (it didn’t work) and her children. Being a doctor at the time was incompatible with motherhood for her.
This is a very melancholic read: Dawn appears to be lonely now her children have grown up and moved away. Her time is taken up with thoughts of her past, missed opportunities, and the search for her daughter. She has had failed attempts to find her daughter, and it sounds as though there were financial repercussions as well. There’s no mention of friends, as far as I can remember, just one male friend with benefits.
Should this have been on the Booker long list 2025 and now on the Women’s Prize long list? Why not, it’s an enjoyable, if rather sombre read.

Well, I didn’t know how much I needed to read Korean literature until I read The Trunk!
Inji works for a secret branch of a well-known matchmaking agency. Men who would like a wife without the long term commitment, hire a Field Wife. She fulfils their every wish, be it domestic or sexual. Inji’s current husband is a repeat contract. He’s not very good at being a husband, and reinforces Inji’s opinions on marriage: unnecessary and unfulfilling. And then there’s the possibility of domestic violence and exploitation.
To be fair, this doesn’t paint a great picture of marriage in (this case) Korea. Inji doesn’t even refer to her husband by name. He’s just “husband”, which makes him almost incidental to the story.
There’s a lot going on in this novel: family dynamics, exploitation, modern slavery, death (by suicide?), prostitution.
And what is the trunk in the title? I personally think it’s Inji’s personal baggage: the emotions, feelings and responsibilities that she carries around with her all the time. This trunk goes with her between field husband, her family and her flat. She’s never without it.
Is it the thriller that it’s sold as? I don’t think so, but it is a very interesting glance into life in Korea, and I really enjoyed it.
