After losing their son. A young couple, Mark and Jessie, decide to Foster a young boy named Cody. Cody had been to a few Foster homes but they all proved problematic, one family even disappeared, leaving Cody by himself.
When we meet Cody properly, he appears to be very well mannered and even takes his shoes off before entering the couples home.
The couple soon discover that Cody has a box of stimulants to keep him awake at night, which he says is to keep the canker man from eating him. The couple brush it off thinking it's a typical child's over-active imagination.
When Cody finally goes to sleep, strange things start to happen in the house. A load of butterflies appear in the living room and their son appears in the house, he doesn't speak but just stands there smiling and they are able to touch him, strangely he disappears when Cody wakes up. It doesn't take the couple long to work out that as Cody sleeps, he is able to make their son appear using videos and photos as references, essentially his dreams become reality. What they don't realise is the evil darkness that comes with it, and it isn't long before it starts attacking Cody whilst he's awake, due to him being sleep deprived. Eventually Jessie searches for ways to help him.
I put this movie off for so long as I didn't expect to like it. It turned out I actually really enjoyed it. It moved at a nice pace and I found it interesting right from the beginning which doesn't tend to happen in horror movies. Mind you I say horror movies but this is more of a fantasy drama with a small element of horror. The acting from everyone is spot on and the horror element of it good, it had a couple of jump scares but they're not over the top. Visuals are good for the most part, but I felt the butterflies looked really false.
I would definitely recommend this movie if you haven't seen it already.

Every woman has a secret...
From one of Elle magazine's 'authors to watch' comes a suspenseful and emotionally fraught novel about how little we really know the person we marry. For fans of The Affair and Dr Foster.
Everyone admires Suzy and her doll's house life. She has a gorgeous family, a beautiful home and a successful business. But Suzy hasn't always been in control. In her past lies a shadowy tale of fear and instability - a life that she once ran away from, and has hidden from ever since.
When Suzy starts being followed, she fears that her past may finally be catching up with her. And when she finds herself unable to do what to her is the most important thing - keep her loved ones safe - she has to decide how far she'd be willing to go to win everything back.
Even if it means sacrificing everything she knows and loves...

This story is about Suzy a married mum of two who is the breadwinner of the family. Her husband had to leave his job as a police officer as he injured his leg. Her husband Mike has taken on the role of a stay at home dad. Suzy starts finding things subtly left around that relates to her dad. Suzy and her mum fled from due to his violence. Suzy's mum has not long died and Suzy wonders if there is somebody watching her or is it just down to her grieving for her mum.

Imagine a small dream snowballing into an even bigger nightmare! That's what Kath Weeks made happen to Suzy Taylor. Big time!

This book, although it comes under women's fiction, I would say has a thriller edge to it as well. It's a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat, wondering what will happen on the turn of the next page, it's full of suspense and drama, lies and deceit and definitely had me gripped from beginning to end.

My thanks to Little, Brown and Netgalley for an advanced copy.

I think there is always a case for choosing a book based purely on the cover. This is another of those times where I’ve done precisely that - and I loved this book.

Fragile is a haunting thriller, where two young people, Nell and Joe, run away to London from their foster home after a tragic event. An event that we’re drip fed the information of as the book progresses.

Joe and Nell become separated, so Nell decides to go and knock on the door of the last place she saw him. When Dr. Robin Wilder opens the door at Starling Villa, Nell manages to talk him into employing her as his housekeeper. But all is not as it seems. Is Nell really safe here? What happened in Wales before she ran away to London with Joe? What does Dr. Wilders wife want with Nell? And where is Joe?

Nell and Joe’s backstories about their lives in care are heartbreaking. From a young age, Nell becomes the house ‘mother’, cleaner and cook. It’s a horrible life for her and so well described. Joe’s life isn’t any better.

Actually, the writing is so descriptive: people and places are described picture perfectly, and some scenes are so emotive, whilst others are really tense. The gripping finale was heartbreaking.

Sarah Hilary is a new author to me, and one that I’ll certainly look out for in future.
