A story of one man's obsession with a woman who wanted something else. Unfortunately, I found this book to be a touch too sterile for my taste, lacking in humour and devoid of the historical connections I expect to find in period fiction. I'm sorry for the 2 star rating. Unfortunately, reading from Chris' POV was pretty boring. I like that I was able to get a glimpse into how he felt and the way his feelings for Lauren slowly turned into something more, but I felt like I was trudging through the story. There were many times when I found myself skimming through certain scenes.

I got to chapter eight, 34% in and just had no inclination to read anymore. It wasn't grabbing my attention like it had at the beginning and I found myself just skipping through bits, trying to find a bit to keep me interested and to make me want to continue but it never came. Therefore it's going down as a DNF, I'm afraid.

I absolutely fell in love with this book, and I totally didn't expect to. But I couldn't put the story down, and with every turn of the page, I found myself more invested in the characters and their world. It's a must read for anyone looking for a story that's new, interesting, and packed with court conflicts. It's like Wicked King Meets ACOTAR!!!!!!
