I know I read William Goldings 'Lord of the Flies' in school.

Truth be told, I didn't remember all that much about it, other than that it went to some very dark places.

As does this BBC adaptation of the same story, following a group of schoolkids who get stranded on an island following a plane crash, and who - with lack of parental authority - find themselves descending into some very barbaric behaviour.

Whilst I can appreciate *what* the editors were trying to show through the strange colour palette and the incidental music, I have to say I found this series to drag somewhat (and wasn't a fan of the same).

Now I have to say that this is a movie that I probably wouldn’t have given much thought to, but after seeing the trailer so many times before the movies at Cineworld it piqued my curiosity and seeing that it was a Cineworld Unlimited Screening I thought I would give it a go.

There are some moments where are found myself laughing out loud during the movie, the production of Pirates is very much on the Indie looking side and this works well, as I mentioned earlier the soundtrack is brilliant and I think for me this made up for most of the other stuff in the film.

Too much cowboy malarkey (0 more)

Having read a fair few Laymon novels I looked forward to reading this one. Jack The Ripper goes West is an interesting idea but sadly runs aground. The main issue I had was that there was too much cowboy malarkey going on in the main story. The horror elements are kept as bookends for the story, which follows Trevors travels to Tombstone to attempt to halt Jack The Ripper's reign of terror. As I am not much of a fan of Western novels I found it all a bit of a slog to get through. Not one of Laymon's best by a long mile.

I found myself being pulled in to the beautiful animation and story, Two Balloons is stop-motion animation at it’s finest, add to that the emotion that the short film produces, the film is one that although it only runs for nine minutes, I ended up watching several times to take in the delights. Mark has certainly written a heart-warming story.

The look of Two Balloons can only be described as delightful and charming, as is the story of these two lemurs find what they are looking for, dare I say that the ending even brought a tear to my eyes, in a lovely way.
