Erika Kehlet (21 KP) rated The Perils Of Pauline in Books
Feb 21, 2018
NOTE **I was provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**
At first, I had a hard time relating to Pauline, an ex-military, hockey playing mom on her second marriage. I also had trouble feeling sorry for her since it seemed to me that most of Pauline's perils were, in fact, brought on by her own poor judgement. She grew on me, however, and I soon found myself hoping that everything would work out for her in the end. I couldn't help but laugh both with and at her. This was a quick, funny read that just might leave you thankful that you only have your own problems to worry about, and not Pauline's.

Asgardians of the Galaxy, Vol 2.5
Marvel attempts to fix some of the flaws in Norse mythology, by including a few more spaceships and the Hulk, and also its own series of Thor films, by basically doing another Guardians of the Galaxy-style knockabout comedy. Obviously the former is less controversial than the latter.
Boisterous entertainment, of course; technically extremely accomplished and often very funny indeed. My only issue was that this was the third Marvel Studios movie in a row to basically be played for laughs, and something with a slightly more adventurous tone would have been welcome. But it manages the trick of actually making one excited about seeing more movies with Thor as the main character, so I guess that counts as mission accomplished.

Nothing says knockabout comedy like a truck bomb
Raucous action-comedy odd-couple movie with uptight protection agent Ryan Reynolds having to get laid-back hired killer Samuel L Jackson to the court on time so he can testify against evil despot Gary Oldman (one of his 'just here for the cheque' performances).
Some good jokes and well-mounted action but you have to wonder about a movie which thinks there's nothing tonally weird about including scenes of women and children being cold-bloodedly murdered or terror attacks on western cities in what's essentially a knockabout comedy. Some genuinely funny moments and nice chemistry between the two leads, but hard to get past the fundamental moral vacancy of it all.

informative
two great presenters
Great stand in presenters
fantastic movie review show.
I love this podcast. flappy hands and teenager (Mark and Simon respectively) are great presenters. I always love the Kermodian rants and Simon's dry humour. Mark is always very informative about movies and movie related subjects. Simon is brilliant at reading out listeners emails. Also there are a lot of in jokes that have appeared over the years that make you feel part of a community when you're out and about and hear someone say something from the show and you know where it's come from like "Hello to Jason Isaacs". I couldn't recommend it highly enough. And with that TTOFADWTN. And HTJI.

Great cast, great chemistry (3 more)
Great humour
Loved the plot
Keeps you guessing
A newly perfect movie?
This is a fantastic movie. The humour is spot on. Very funny, it's not too stupid and it's not too serious.
All through the movie your kept guessing what's real and what's fake. Plenty of twists to keep you hooked. Unpredictable in most parts and a great ending.
The dialogue is perfectly written and the cast do great. Everyone is perfectly cast. They all have great chemistry and are very likable. The plot is different, I've never seen a movie like it that I can remember and I would watch it again. Would love to see a sequel but cannot see how they could make it different.

Humor
I watched this movie not too long ago at family movie night and everyone there enjoyed it. It is hard to find a movie that my family will all enjoy and agree on, but this one was awesome. The movie mainly follows two competitive, game-obsessed people and their friends as a traditional game night takes them on a wild and unexpected adventure. The movie kind of keeps you guessing and enthralled. There is lots of funny parts (some mildly inappropriate if I'm remembering correctly) and is over all very entertaining. It is your typical comedy, but manages to make all the usual cliches seem interesting and hilarious. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and would not mind watching it again. Would recommend.

A little forgotten...
It's hard to say a Tarantino film is forgotten; however, not nearly as many people still talk about Jackie Brown as most of his other work which is a shame since it still holds up as another brilliant character study of a caper gone wrong and lots of double-crossing.
Robert De Niro is funny in the film mostly because he doesn't say or do much and is pretty subdued most of the time. The standouts are Pam Grier and Robert Forster with other nods to Michael Keaton, Bridget Fonda and her feet and the always amazing Samuel L. Jackson.
If you haven't seen in a while or have never seen, please give it another look.

Jimmy Carr is funny but not as overly offensive as his stand up (3 more)
Most of the time the panelists can make you laugh without resorting to offensive mundane jokes
The Countdown aspect is a lot of fun to watch
Jon Richardson just rolls with the punches
Bloody Hilarious
I don't really know what to compare the show to.
It's a comedy show that takes on the aspects of the much beloved, but quite boring show 'Countdown'.
Everything about it works, in my opinion. It's light-hearted, there are various guests - many make multiple appearances, and the laughs are constant!
Humour is subjective, yes. But, I urge anyone to give it a go, you might just love it.

Not as good as the book
It was a good representation of the book, however it kind of droned on and was slow paced.
The book involved a lot more in-depth description of Elio and his feelings towards Oliver even though it was also quite slow paced. The depth of how the book was written though made up for it, as it kept you wanting to read it more.
I would most likely watch the film again as it is still quite good and is a great coming of age movie. Furthermore, there were some funny moments within the movie.
Would recommend the movie, however I think that the book is definitely worth reading as it portrays it a lot better
