"Oh, Gene [Wilder]. Gene would laugh every time I said anything. He was just helpless [laughing]."

I loved watching this film as a kid, and still do. I've never compared this movie to the novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Gene Wilder was perfect as Willy Wonka, his sarcasm is tops. The songs are one of the best parts, accept Cheer Up Charlie, that song is boring. I always fast-forwarded the video tape to pass over it.
I believe this movie has held up through the ages, and will always be superior.

"Okay. I’m going to say a weird one here — but what an amazing performance in that film. When I was a kid I just loved these kind of movies that just took me to another world. I still like watching it today. I watch it with my kids. Gene Wilder. What a performance. It’s just extraordinary. It’s just a film that’s always stayed with me and I still love it today. It’s still fascinating to look at. Gene Wilder is just wild and kind of lonely and mad and so unhinged. It’s a fantastic film."

"After that would be Young Frankenstein. I think that, laugh for laugh… I mean, if you’re going to go for more laughs, I think Blazing Saddles. But Young Frankenstein‘s just a better movie. More solid. And it’s Gene Wilder. I was such a huge fan of Gene Wilder when I was growing up that I even used to try to do… He used to do something; he would say nonsensical… He would make noise in movies without words. He would say things like: [mumbles incoherently], like that, and it made me laugh so hard when he would do that, that I would try to put it in movies when I started acting. I did a movie called 28 Days, and I’m in rehab, and we’re in a circle talking about our feelings, and the script said, “She calls on Gerhardt, but he’s crying and he can’t respond,” and she says, “Okay, we’ll come back to you.” And so it came out. “Gerhardt, would you like to say something?” [bawls incoherently] And I just make noise. [laughs] And then I snuck it into A Knight’s Tale when I’m trying to threaten Chaucer for the first time. I’m like, [frustrated mumbling]. I would just rip [Gene Wilder] off, totally try to mimic him. So, Gene Wilder, huge fan. That’s number two."

"Starring, and (mostly) written by Gene Wilder, [Young Frankenstein] is not only a tour de force of Wilder’s brilliance, but arguably the apex of the genius that is Mel Brooks. The supporting cast is also hilarious and unique. Great, and best take on the Frankenstein legend."

"Just the performances of Laura Linney and Mark Ruffalo are just amazing. I loved that movie. It’s such a simple, quiet story, but it’s just so good. The characters were so good. The performances were so good. If I threw a sixth one in there, it’d be the original Willy Wonka. Gene Wilder is brilliant."

A staple Christmas movie and the best adaptation there is, the remake was unnecessary and was very messy.
It's a wonderfully story and contains some great musical numbers and Gene Wilder was nothing short of amazing bringing the titular character to life.
Not sure if it will ever be bettered, I dont think they should try..classic!

Young Frankenstein is a comedy horror film from 1974 directed by Mel Brooks, also known for his work on Blazing Saddles and Spaceballs. The film follows Gene Wilder's character of Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, or should I say Froderick Fronkenstein, as he discovers that he has inherited the estate of his grandfather Victor von Frankenstein. It's interesting to see Wilder go from a calm and collected neuroscience professer to a stark raving madman throughout his performance. The film also benefits from being filmed entirely in black and white, evoking the style of old Universal horror movies from the 1930s. Most of the jokes land, making this film a treat to watch. However, some of them are a bit crude and reference sexual activities, so some people may be a bit turned off by them. The good thing is that there aren't that many of these types of crude jokes so it's not quite so overbearing. In conclusion, this is really one of Mel Brooks' best films and one of Wilder's best performances in his career. Go check it out this Halloween.
