I love Karin Slaughter and the Will Trent novels in general but this wasn't my favourite. As an ex-police officer myself I did enjoy Amanda's and Evelyn's story as female police officers in the US in the 70's. I could see it in my minds eye and found it believable. We finally find out the truth about Trent's parents and how he ended in the care system and why Amanda sought him out to join the GBI many years later. All in all a solid story.

Erika (17789 KP) rated First Man (2018) in Movies

This film really is best seen on a large screen, for the space sequences alone.
Sadly, it gets burdened down by way too much Earth melodrama, and it drags the movie down. I was desperately waiting for the launch of Apollo 11, it took nearly two hours to get there.
Ryan Gosling did well playing Armstrong, I think. Yeah, he was remote, but in general, that's kind of how engineers are in real life. I really liked Corey Stoll's brazen Aldrin, he was a nice contrast to the stoic Armstrong.

Erika (17789 KP) rated Inferno Squad (Star Wars Battlefront #2) in Books
Jun 19, 2019
Set just after the events of Rogue One, this novel is about how the Empire struck back. It features the elite Inferno Squad, put together to infiltrate one of the rebel cells. The novel is also inspired by Battlefront II.
I liked the characters in general, and the story was interesting and well-paced. There are also some Easter eggs from The Clone Wars television show. Christie Golden has always been a solid author of video-game/franchise inspired stories. I hope Disney gives her another book to write.

The most amazing Mostly historically accurate TV show I’ve ever seen.
I love reading about Queen Victoria as her relationship with her husband Albert is a truly beautiful and tragic love story. The casting is so perfect for Albert & I think Jenna Coleman makes for a beautiful Victoria. It is quite accurate to what I have previously read about Victoria and Albert and the clothing is so beautiful.
It is truly so well done & I highly recommend this TV show to anyone interested in history, Queen Victoria or just the royal family in general

David McK (3562 KP) rated Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017) in Movies
Dec 10, 2019
By far the most divisive of the Star Wars movies, this is one of those films that I tend to enjoy while watching, but later come away with a whole host of problems. Such as:
How can Rey be so powerful with no training?
What, Princess (or General) Leia doing Peter Pan in space (may not have been so bad if there had been any indication she knew/was trained in how to use the Force)
The world slowest Lightspeed chase
What is the point of the Canto Bight excursion?
and, not forgetting,
#NotmyLuke

Kelly Rettie (748 KP) rated Slayer (Slayer #1) in Books

Loved it
Once I got past the first few chapters I really got into it. I found it to be a bit of a slow starter due to the constant negative references to Buffy, which I get that there had to be a bit of tension there, but was maybe a bit repetitive. Other than that it was a fantastic read so I pre-ordered the 2nd one which I aim to start soon.
