I am genuinely surprised at how much I love this movie. Normally, I am a firm advocate for film adaptations sticking to the book and if they don't, I find myself getting really upset (Dumplin' is a great example of this), but I thoroughly love this movie. The changes that were made are ones that I love. I don't mind it not sticking to it entirely because the general feel of the story is still there. I get the same feeling watching the move that I got reading the book and I think that's most important.

Additionally, this cast is incredible. I love Lana Conder, I think she's incredible. I love almost everything Noah Centineo is in and he's the exact guy that I imagined for Peter. (Same with Lana and Lara Jean). I think that they have great chemistry and I'm excited to see how that plays out even further when the next movie comes out in February.

I really love this series. I know some people don't, I'm not sure why honestly, but I love it and I definitely see myself watching these movies every now and again when I just need a good, heartwarming love story.

Better than Suicide Squad (0 more)
First, this film is better than Suicide Squad (I rated that film a 2); it wasn't a hard bar to pass though.
A more apt title for the film would be Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey. I'm definitely a fan of Birds of Prey, and not really a Harley Quinn fan. I find Harley Quinn kind of annoying, and the storytelling structure was headache inducing at times.
The positives: The fight choreography, that was basically it's saving grace. Ewan McGregor didn't have a lot of story to work with, it was all on the surface. I did think it was hilarious when he joined the dance number for 'Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend', that just made me want to go and watch Moulin Rouge again. He also reused his general American accent from Men Who Stare at Goats, which marks the second movie I thought about watching while I was in this film.

The overall plot was basic and it was very predictable. What made this film even worse was that I did a double-feature and saw Ford v Ferrari afterwards, and there's simply no comparison.

Saving a whole bunch of Privates.
397. 1917. Think Saving Private Ryan with a smaller cast, smaller family, different war, different ally, same enemy. Filmed in one long shot, tells the story of two soldiers sent on a slightly dangerous mission, ok, one soldier and he drags his poor buddy along with him for the ride. Friendship!! Lance Corporal Blake (played by Dean-Charles Chapman, ok pull up a picture of him. Observe. Now look up the actress Joey King. Observe.) is called to see the General, he has an important mission for him, to head over to another regiment before they walk into a trap, and cost the lives of up to 1600 men, including Blakes' own brother. And yay, just for being his friend, and standing next to him while he gets the orders, Lance Corporal Schofield gets to go through hell with him! An exciting and grotesque look at the battlefield, being filmed in one shot gave it intense feel. Doesn't let up until the end! Several popular Brits pop up in there for cameos, spotted Sherlock Holmes, a Kingsman, and Rob Stark in there. Worth the watch!! Filmbufftim on FB

"Gorgeously Pointless" sums this up for me. In general I find the Disney live action remakes pretty pointless. Why try, other than to fill Disney coffers? (Which I guess is the producer’s point!) And my opinion hasn’t changed after this. I still think its a rather pointless exercise, particularly in this case where there is no human cast.

With these things, I always think of Jim Carrey‘s cry at the end of his version of “I am the Walrus”. He screams “There, I did it. I defiled a timeless piece of art”. Jon Favreau can at least sleep happy (sic) in his bed content that he hasn’t managed to do that. I can’t say I was horrified by this one, because I wasn’t. It was majestic, entertaining, technically superb and certainly had its moments.

The acid test for me would be “would I go and see that again”. And in this case the answer would be “yes”.

Historical epic from Kurosawa. A motley group including two scumbag peasants, a wilful young princess, and an imposingly lethal warrior try to make their way through enemy territory while carrying a large stash of gold. Much more famous for its influence on the stellar conflict saga than its own merits, this movie doesn't have the inspired simplicity of premise or the economy of a film like Seven Samurai or Yojimbo, but is still rewarding provided you can get on its wavelength.

There are many good things about this film - Mifune, the compositions, some stunning epic set-pieces - but on the other hand it will probably feel very slow to a modern viewer, with a lot of wandering about that doesn't really seem necessary. At its heart the film is about the contrast and conflict between the noble and honorable concerns of the princess and her general and the completely selfish and amoral outlook of the peasants, and this is nicely achieved without feeling too heavy-handed. Suffice to say everyone learns something by the end. In the end, though, this is mid-table Kurosawa.
