DRAKAINA'S FIRE is the first book in the Drak Defense Co. series and we are introduced to a first-class group of women mercenaries who are able to pull off jobs no one else can. They charge top dollar, and the US Government is happy to pay it due to their success rate. Oh, and the fact they donate some of their money to widows and children of war charities.
Daphne is the eldest and has eleven sisters (same father, different mothers) who are all Drakaina (female pronoun). Everett is the youngest General in the military and is ordered to learn more about the mercenary crew. Both of them turn into silly putty when they meet each other.
For a debut book, this was a good start. The general concept of the world - both the normal and paranormal one - has its foundations laid. The big bad has been made known to us and the reasons behind it.
However, there are sentences and phrases that are repeated unnecessarily, words spelt correctly but used wrongly (be instead of me), and some things that just don't make sense. The supporting characters fade into the background as you don't learn much about them, the exception being Charlotte but I still don't know much about her either. Also, Daphne and Everett are supposed to be leaders! Some of the things they do - both separately and together - just don't make sense or seem physically possible. For example, if you've got members of your team going missing, you're not going to go off by yourself with no backup, especially when you know what you're up against.
And don't even get me started on Daphne's blip about betrayal! My Kindle was very nearly damaged with this one. Of course, I'll believe the man who works for the enemy, who has just admitted kidnapping and torturing my sister, who baited a trap I've just walked into, over the word of my mate who has done nothing but be there for me since we've met. And how does said man reappear later when he's supposed to be absolutely and utterly dead! D.E.A.D! Apparently, Drakaina aren't as thorough as they think they are, nor is their fire as hot as they think.
On the whole, a good debut but it will definitely need to be tightened up to go forwards.

Dull and boring
I've never read the book or seen any previous adaptations, or indeed any other Poirot stories or any Agatha Christie novels at all. And all I can say is that I hope this film isn't a reflection on the rest of her work.
The film starts well, with a fun introduction to Poirot and Kenneth Branagh is probably the best thing about the film in general. He does a fantastic job as Poirot for the most part, very believable as a Belgian.
However before the murder even takes place, the film starts to dip and gets a little dull. The murder itself is presented in such an uninteresting way and the cinematography at times is a little bizarre. Some of the camera shots don't work and some seem ridiculously cheesy how they're staged. The questioning of the suspects does little to bring any tension or intrigue, and the star studded cast isn't given much to work with although some try their best to ham it up (Michelle Pfeiffer).
And then the finale/resolution itself is just completely bonkers. It might have been unexpected, but not in a good way. It was just very silly and not at all what I was hoping for from this film. Such a disappointment.

If you haven't yet read any Jennifer L Armentrout then your missing out!
Jennifer writing is so easy to get lost in whether your reading her Young Adult, New Adult or General fiction she has the ability to capture the reader better than most authors I've ever read.
The Titan Series is the Sequal to Jennifer Covanant series. If you haven't yet read Covanant please read it especially if you love Greek mythology. Covanant follows a very empowered amazing female lead called Alexandra Andros where as The Return follows Seth.
Seth is an extremely complex and amazing character if you have read the Covanant series you know Seth started out as a egoticial hard man Apolloyon who through the series change due to Alexs influence.
The Return Seth no longer has Alex as his conscious and guide. Seth has to repent for his mid deeds from the covanant series and it doesn't help he suddenly has feeling for his new charge. I love this book a lot not as much as the original Covanant series but it still amazing all the same plus Seth and Apollo arguments egos and bitch fighting can keep me amused for days.

Really interesting, fresh & freaky horror offering
I'm a lover of horror movies, so there's not too much worth seeing in that genre that hasn't played in my house. Generally, these days, most horrors are disappointing, lack lustre, devoid of any depth of storyline and are cast with people who seem not to have had a sniff at acting in their lives. This movie surprised me. The acting was pretty solid, the casting was good. Everyone was believable & likeable. The autopsy footage itself didn't shy away from the needful, but wasn't gore hungry. I wasn't left frustrated and wanting to see more nor was a balking at a bloodbath before me. A big complaint of mine with horrors these days is the lack of fear factor or not feeling sufficiently creeped out. This little movie did achieve its potential with me. I did feel the old pulse quickening a few times, which was a pleasant surprise for me as everything seems to have been done again and again in horror, so a scare is always welcome.
Fans of big budget mainstream horror probably won't find anything of interest here. Purveyors of all kinds of horrors and lovers of all movies in general should check this one out.
