Be Prepared
The Lion King is Bad But Not Awful
It wasn't as bad as some people are saying but still a disappointing experience.

If you're looking for a more realistic version of the original then you'll probably like it.

If you're looking for a movie that adds something of value to this story then you'll probably be disappointed. It's the same story and half of the dialogue is verbatim to the original.

The strongest parts of the movie were the visuals and the scenes with Timon and Pumbaa. At the same time, however, the visuals actually hurt the film because everything looked bleak and boring. The animated film had vibrant colors and the characters were full of emotion. Disney wanted this remake to be realistic, which they accomplished but it prevents the film from giving the audience the same emotional attachment as the original.

The voice acting for most of the characters wasn't good. This stands out because a lot of the dialogue was repeated from the animation so the whole time I kept thinking about how they handled things so much better in the original.

The remake isn't an insult to the original but its existence seems pointless. It's a very well made film but suffers from a lack of originality.

Black Hand is the first book in the Infernal Regions for the Unprepared series and we meet up with Brooklyn, Dominic, and Alice. Brooklyn and Dominic are (apparently) natural enemies and Alice is just a mere human but she is more than capable of holding her own against these two!

Wow! Okay, where do I start? Okay, first of all, you might think there is less action in this one but, trust me, it works. I absolutely loved the fact that although the pacing is still fast, there is time to stop and breathe and appreciate the connection between Brooklyn and Dominic. Also, that gave me time to feel the full impact of Veronica!!

The world- and scene-building are exceptional, giving the reader a nicely rounded view of Brooklyn's world and how different she feels. The emotions are vivid and I was caught up on every word.

This is an amazing start to a new series. I am a fan of Maya Daniels and have enjoyed everything she has written but, this one? Off the freakin' charts!!!! Loved every word. Absolutely and utterly recommended!

Blow the man down
Bait is a beautiful disorientating gem of a movie about how we failure to understand and communicate with each other on a daily basis. Set in an old fishing village that's having to change with the times while leaving its locals struggling to make a living. bait is loaded with conflict and tension as tourists and locals cross paths and confront each other on a daily basis. Watching bait is a constant visual treat it's scratchy, jumpy, weathered and seemingly missing vital scenes giving it not only a sense of nostalgia but great authenticity too. Dialog is stiff, seemingly mismatched and layered in an almost hazy dream like way adding brilliantly to the overall atmosphere, harsh themes and knife point tension. Acting is tip top too with every single character seething with realistic portrayals of frustration, jealousy, anger and #hatred these along with close up shots of clenched fists and faces showing eyes of sheer boredom add superbly to a film that feels so relatable and incredibly British. Bait is by no means a happy watch with its intense close up imagery, pulsing scratchy film reel and defining silence that accompanies all the constant drama and conflict but theres something so pure, heart warming and nostalgic in all it's damn fine riveting hopelessness that rewards all that stay till it's haunting and mezmerising conclusion.

The Morning Show
The Morning Show
2019 | Comedy, Drama
A show that I wasn’t sure I was going to like , but giving it a chance I ended up watching all 10 episodes in under a week. An interesting and topical storyline that explores many weighty and contemporary issues following the aftermath of the Harvey Weinstein scandal and relating to the me too movement. The show is very well written and keeps you coming back for more.

The performances from Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell (playing very much against his usual nice guy persona) are both very good but the one who really surprised me was Jennifer Aniston. I had only ever thought of her as a pretty lightweight comic actress but she really was outstanding here.

I really enjoyed the whole season overall but the final episode was the best by far and has set up some very interesting storylines for season 2.

The only thing that did get on my nerves a bit was the constant product placement of Apple products. I know they produced it but absolutely everyone has an iPhone, the only computers used were Apple Mac and the only tablets IPad. I suppose it was to be expected but it would have had a bit more authenticity if you had a bit more variety on display.

A minor distraction really and the show is still well worth watching.
