Does anyone have a favourite genre for historical fiction? I do like the elegance of the Regency, but the further back in history you go, the less is know and the more there is for an author to fill in, so medieval is quite a feature of my bookshelves. I also like a good historical mystery.

I really get on my high horse about it at times. I don’t mind if authors acknowledge it, and say that it is not quite right, but it didn’t work as a story, but I get a little upset when they try to pass it off as fact ;)

Is there anything better than a book about books? :D Very handy little book, especially if you're a novice to the historical fiction genre and aren't quite sure where you'd like to travel next. How the author categorized books was very helpful and inventive too. Altogether it may not be the most comprehensive guide to historical fiction, but it's a darned good place to start your journey in the field or just to decide what's next. Is it weird that I read it cover to cover? ;P

I love Susanna Kearsley's novels, they are, in fact, my favorite sort of novels. Partially historical fiction, modern fiction, with a hint of supernatural in the form of ghosts, typically.
I was excited when I read the synopsis of this novel, and couldn't wait to read it. I was slightly disappointed by it, because it wasn't as good as her other novels. The historical portion was a little slow, and the modern novel portion was fairly predictable. I still enjoyed it, just not as much as I would have liked to enjoy it.
