Background:
Over the fourteen years I've been a (ovo-lacto) vegetarian, I've often thought of becoming a vegan, but usually discarded it because it seemed like it would be too difficult, and really, how could I give up cheese? Especially my favorite comfort food, macaroni and cheese. Sure, there's soy cheese but it has been harder to find, not to mention, more expensive. However, I've recently discovered what rennet is and cannot stomach ever eating cheese again. This comes years after I'd already stopped eating gelatin when I found out where that came from. So, slowly but surely, I've been taking one step at a time towards becoming vegan. Now, I don't know if I'll ever become fully vegan, but that's where books like this one can help.
The Book:
I can't tell you how awesome this book is. For the first one-hundred pages, it explains what veganism is, what certain foods are (tofu, which gets a bad rap, tempeh, soy, etc.) and how to properly prepare them, where to get nutrition, what to stock in the pantry, adapting non-vegan recipes to become vegan, and a heck of a lot more helpful information. The recipes make up the bulk of the book and have all the usual categories: breakfast, condiments, desserts, entrees, etc. The introduction page of each category includes what recipes are actually in that chapter, which is a nice feature. All the directions are clearly explained, most are easy to prepare, and don't contain too many 'odd' ingredients that are difficult to find (meaning most of the recipes aren't gourmet and are more on the simple side, which makes me happy). They also contain nutritional information per serving, how much prep time, and tips and variations. I've been very impressed with the page layout of the recipe section, which features a border that separates it from the information section, so even when closed you can clearly see where this portion starts and that makes it easier to find the recipes. In the last chapter, there's even is a list of emergency snacks for vegans on the road or otherwise stuck without their own pantry, which could be very helpful for newbies. From beginning to end, this is a well-organized book chockful of useful tidbits and interesting recipes that I'll be sure to go back to again and again. Highly recommended.

DD Warren is trying to find out who has killed the Baez family. Mother, Justine; her boyfriend, Charlie; her youngest daughter, Lola; and her only son, Manny. But there is another child, Roxanna, as well as two dogs, Rosie and Blaze. Where are they? Did Roxanna do this to her family? If so, why? But Roxy was the protector of the family. Her mom is a recovering alcoholic and when she was drinking Roxy made sure her siblings ate and made it to school. When the state took the kids away from Justine for a year, this role for Roxy became more prominent. After that year, the girls were never the same. Did something happen during their year in foster care that could have warranted this kind of violence? Will DD be able to find the person or people responsible for this before more people are killed? Will her new CI, Flora Dane prove to be helpful or detrimental to this case?

I don't think that I needed to read the entire series to get into this book, but I'm sure the background on some of the characters would have been helpful. So, I'm definitely going to go back now and read the rest of the series.

Over the course of a few days Detective DD Warren is trying to find out who could do such a thing to this family. With the help of confidential informant, Flora Dane, will they be able to find the killer as well as find Roxana before it's too late. Who would want to hurt these people? What did they do? So many questions and the answers can't come fast enough, until they all do come crashing into one another in one fell swoop.
I can't wait to read more books in this series.

A serious contender for game of the year
2018 has blown me away with video game releases. I believe this year and next year are going to be the highest point of this generation and currently my pick for game of the year.
I cannot praise this game enough. The main focus here is the acting and the chemistry between these characters. This game is not about the destination, it is about the journey. The journey of a father and son and their relationship and seeing it grow throughout the game. Their relationship is believable and honest and this is all thanks to the incredible acting. They give so much emotion and power in their performances that you are gripped all the way to the end. They show emotion, humour, anger, resentment and loyalty in a way you believe this is a father and son going through something difficult and showing their struggles. The writing was fantastic. Kratos struggling to find a connection with his son and atreus actually being written like a real kid that was actually likable and helpful in battle and in other gameplay elements.
Bear Mccreary provides the incredible score that only heightens all these moments which left me mouth hanging open for longer than I care to admit. But don't get me wrong this game doesn't just grip with with these characters. All of the side characters are as amazing. They provide a sense of comic relief when the emotion between the 2 main characters become intense.
The game is beautiful, I cant fault it visually. I'd have liked more blood but I wasnt missing it. I'd have liked more boss battles but at this point I'm trying to nitpick but I didn't miss them either because I dont think the game needed them. Maybe the sequel. The environments looked beautiful and varied. The gameplay also very fun and varied with a few shocks along the way, both story based and gameplay wise. A companion that was actually helpful in and out of battle while providing a lot of character building when travelling.
A must have for any ps4 owner and by far one of the best of this generation or even of playstation overall.

Couldn't live without it
For me, Google maps is a vitally essential app that I just couldn't without it. There's rarely a day goes by where I don't use it for directions or checking traffic. The fact that you can check traffic is a very handy feature! I also love that you can check bus times by clicking on a bus stop. If like me you're not a regular bus rider, this is very helpful.
My only criticisms would be that sometimes the alternative routes don't seem to work. I live near the Manchester M60 ring road, so know there's always at least 2 options by going opposite ways round the ring road. However sometimes Google only gives me one route. But then other times it gives me both. Even if the traffic is atrocious I'd still like to see both routes! It also then makes me question the routes it gives me when I don't know the area.
Also the traffic indicator can be a little hit and miss. Sometimes it can be showing red, but there ends up being barely any traffic at all.

Get a Move On, Neuron! by Philip R. Kennedy presents a basic description of brain function to young readers who enjoy science.
Throughout the book the reader goes on a tour of the brain learning about different brain functions. The reader learn about some interesting issues during the tour; such as, memory, self-awareness, and emotions. Each brief chapter ends with a series of questions that recap and review the material. I find the questions a bit distracting since the answers are not provided. The illustrations are nice and helpful. The illustrations are not overly busy, in fact, they help emphasize the topic being discussed. A friendly looking neuron is the "instructor".
Young readers who enjoy science will enjoy this book and will learn a lot of interesting brain facts from this book. This book could be used within the science classroom for going beyond the lesson when discussing brain function.
I give this book 3/5 stars being of the continual repetition which caused the book to come off as boring at times.
