Dean (6927 KP) rated Wild Target (2010) in Movies
Apr 30, 2018
A decent little English comedy about an aging hitman who lives his life by strict rules and discipline. This all goes out the window when he can't kill his latest target a young con-artist and is aided by a young runaway in trying to protect her. It has quite a few funny moments and some very British humour in this black comedy. A great cast raise the standard and it has a certain charm about it.

A great crime thriller with a a good cast. For a change for a Guy Ritchie gangster film this isn't about East end gangsters in London and there is no humour in this. It makes a nice change and the story is very good. The plot gets a bit twisted and can be hard to follow at times. However it's one of the better gangster films I've seen in a long while. Slick and stylish with some great twists.

I absolutely loved the characters and the story was fantastic, I just couldn't put it down till the last page then I was left wanting more. this book had a fab mix of humour, steamy scenes and romance. this book had me laughing to myself in many parts. this book is a defiant must read.

So Quill discovers his Father is in gfact this alien being called Ego...quite appropriate. Its all part of a plan to remake the universe in his own image.
While the film has a few good moments (baby Groot, Yandu, Rocket all have stand out scenes) it's ultimately a run of the mill, by the numbers comic book movie. Yes it's pretty, yes it's got a big budget, no I didn't enjoy it.

Sarah (126 KP) rated Men in Black (1997) in Movies
Jul 31, 2018
Funny, Silly and Enjoyable
This is a laugh-out-loud film, with lots of slapstick, physical comedy, toilet humour and silly jokes.
There's nothing high-brow or thought-provoking about Men in Black, but the contrast of Will Smith's relaxed persona with Tommy Lee-Jones's straight-laced, deadpan character makes for a great partnership.
Men in Black doesn't try to be something it isn't; it's just a fun movie with some heartwarming moments and lots of laughs.

Ross (3284 KP) rated Preacher: Book 1 in Books
Oct 29, 2019
Twisted, dark humour
The first volume of Preacher sees Jesse Custer quickly on the run after receiving Genesis (and his church exploding) - in fact, most of the first series of the TV adaption takes place within the first few pages, with a much-expanded look at the life of jaded reverend Custer in the small Texas town of Annville.
The story from there on is mad, twisted, dark and funny and includes so many oddball characters.

James Koppert (2698 KP) rated Corbyn The Comic Book in Books

Corbyn as is Funny
The publisher asked for submissions and this is the result. A massive compendium of comic book stories where Jeremy Corbyn is the hero. It is funny, clever and original. I imagine if you are a Tory you will hate it. If you are a Coryn fan you will give it ten, if you are a neutral comic book fan an 8. Its just great fun

Shell Wright (34 KP) rated My Sister, the Serial Killer in Books

I had great hope's for this book, due to reviews I had read before picking it up. A bit disappointing, if I'm honest. It did read like a story but without any emotion. It was predictable which was quite off-putting. I read reviews of humour, but I found none. Written in short chapters so very quickly and easily read. I did read it all though, so there is that. I probably wouldn't recommend.

Short but sweet
As I work in the NHS I thought I would give this book a go around the Christmas period. It did get a few giggles from me but other than that, it was slightly repetitive. I realised as I was reading this book that I should have first read Adam Kay's "This is going to hurt" so that some of the writing in this book would have made more sense. Short but sweet!
